approved despite over 600 speakers signing up to speak to the budget, with all but a tiny number strongly opposed, and following a public engagement survey that found the majority of respondents supported a property tax increase to avoid cuts.
Vancouver's 2026 draft budget has PASSED.

Approved on a 7-4 vote on party lines, with ABC in favour and councillors Fry/Bligh/Orr/Maloney opposed.

Property tax freeze, $50 million more for VPD, and cuts to Arts, Culture, Planning and Sustainability departments, among others.

Full story to come.

Olivia Nuzzi wrote an entire story based on unnamed sources about Biden's decline, reinvigorating calls for him to leave the race -- and the whole time, she was working on RFK Jr.'s behalf, according to her ex-fiance. newrepublic.com/article/2035...
Olivia Nuzzi’s Real Victims
More than her fiancé, or fellow female journalists, the public will pay the price for these misdeeds. RFK Jr. will see to that.

Truly cannot wait to see the departure of these smarmy ABC Vancouver councilors & mayor next election. Through this whole budget process they have been so cynical and disrespectful to the public.

Every question from the public is "misinformation" and "disinformation" and "fear mongering" to them😒

still going strong with this database which I alternately feel proud and insane about depending on my mood. it has a few hundred names who could loosely be termed old NY klezmer musicians linked to a wider set of families, union musicians from NY, people who recorded or performed together, etc.
Back to using Gramps genealogy program to build up my database of old New York klezmer musicians in advance of my research trip this winter, and because of the limited types of Events in the program I'm putting Local 802 union membership as an Ordination event.😏 It feels fitting

Last year I took a couple Queer Yiddish classes and my teacher turned me on to a Klezmer artist, Daniel Kahn, and I've been so obsessed with all his music ever since. So sorry not sorry, here is yet another I'm going to throw at you.

Enjoy!

Ugh I'm a lil furious tbh... My guestlisted friend at the Chutzpah Fest @ Vancouver JCC where I was working tonight was denied entry because he was wearing a kuffiyeh and wouldn't take it off. Like it's a public arts festival and an event with a social justice theme. He wasn't hurting anyone!

Since February, according to my latest analysis, almost 600,000 Black women have been economically sidelined. The November 20, 2025, Jobs Report makes clear this isn’t a blip. It’s a structural crisis. That is not a recovery. It is a redistribution of opportunity.

I was a very aimless youth who dropped out of OAC (defunct university-track high school in Ontario) and I thought "well I kinda like to read" so I wrote emails to librarians in Ottawa saying I like to read and how do you get a job there. someone directed me to Algonquin's library tech program.

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.
