Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.

the funniest thing about this picture they used is that it's like 70% taxis stuck in traffic, a thing that would not happen if there was better public transit. As if Taxis somehow give people more personal freedom than a train by costing more and being even more restricted on where they'll take you.

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

Death stranding 2 has my mind on well written villains because the villain is simultaneously:

- unquestionably evil
- fully in control of their emotions and actions
- not acting on false information
- understandably motivated and sympathetic
- doesn't 'have a good point' and isn't glorified
Hearing about Zootopia 2 has me thinking about the modern trend of "emotional, immature, prince joffrey-esque, childish = evil" has replaced the old disney trope of "Old, Ugly, and Gay = Evil" as a way for audiences to uncritically dismiss bad guys as morally flawed at a glance.

now I understand why so many ancient empires were ruled by symbolic child figureheads who lived in fabulous luxury kept far away from the troubling issues of their times.
I regret every joke I’ve made about how our elected officials were so old they didn’t know how to use a computer. I would give anything for another administration that doesn’t know how to use a computer

I'm seeing a weird black friday clickbait trend of "[blank] company is going ZERO PROFIT on this sale" or "liquidating" or "selling at cost" and think that says something about how consumers don't trust sales anymore unless there's an implication the seller is losing money.

"But Almond by this definition wouldn't like 80% of America right now be considered poor working class?"

Yes. Good observation.
My view is: "If you quit your job, how many years can you maintain your current comfort level before working again?"

0-2: (unemployment/emergency): Poor working class.
2-20: (retire at 65): Middle working class.
20-80 (early retirement): Upper working class
>80 (don't have to work at all): Wealthy
this reminds me of a friend who thought he was middle class so he donated his car to a charity that helps poor people and a month later, he saw his car at his neighbor's house

I started this video with a healthy chuckle and ended it questioning if my unironic love for winter and blizzards is actually some latent fetish for the discipline of nature.
This is why I pay for the World Wide Web.

Steam is like how California operates as a second regulatory structure for the US because it's too big to not obey
Steam being a pseudo monopoly is complicated. It's obviously got downsides, but the AI disclosure requirement makes it so realistically everything releasing on PC has to disclose or risk getting banned right off the PC platform forever and it's the only way we'd find out about some of this shit.
