Casual reminder, once charges are laid by police the sub judice period begins (!) and it continues until a. A guilty plea by the alleged offender, or b. The completion of a trial. Let’s not be in contempt of court, let’s ensure a fair trial.

The next two weeks are going to be thick with the most putrid coverage and discourse we’ve ever had to wade through as a nation. Get the facts and then tune out and log off if you must. You are under no obligation to drink the poison.
The shittest Australians you can think of are touching themselves right now. They've got engagement brain. They're thinking about posts, snap rallies and their 'brand'. They're hoping they can get a Cronulla going and hurt a bunch of random innocents while the engagement is still fresh.

We are horrified and shaken in the wake of the mass shooting at a Chanukah event in Bondi this evening, which has left at least ten people dead and injured many more.

This is the first night of Chanukah when we gather with loved ones and friends to light the Chanukiah. 1/4

I'm a big Pay For News guy, for obvious reasons. But if you're running a liveblog on a serious event and playing the Google SEO game... Turn off ya paywall man. Just flick it off. People scrambling for info during a major active police operation. Carn.

I went to a Chabad high school. People I know are affected by events at Bondi today.

Please follow instructions from police and refrain from live tweeting unverified information

Ok it’s all good most likely! Ignore the headline of the news dot com article.

They are having a break, prioritising family and will reopen soon at a new location!

Word on the street is that Alex n Rolls, arguably the best banh mi in Marrickville, is closing up shop on Illawarra road. Don’t know if they are moving to a new location. Devastated

In news I bumped into Maeve O’Meara today after I bought a banh mi for lunch. I called her a fashion icon, she complimented my pants (!), and my banh mi (!!!). Genuinely star struck.
Maeve O’Meara does not get enough credit for being a y2k style icon. PinkPantheress would kill for her 2000’s Food Safari wardrobe imo.

Lukewarm take; the song Dancing2 is sweet and all but also it’s so bland!? It’s giving watered down, like homeopathic watered down, INXS? I listened to the whole song because it was playing at chemist warehouse and I was like when is it going to drop and it never did?

Idk who needs to hear this but have you accepted banh hoi into your life? Banh hoi are netted vermicelli noodles that you cook by soaking in boiling water for no more than 1 minute and 15 seconds. They are great. This was my dinner last night. Stock up on banh hoi you won’t regret it

50 years ago today was the dismissal of Gough Whitlam and 50 years ago yesterday was the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. What on earth was happening in November 1975?

What’s up with these dudes who wear a HEADACHE INDUCING amount of perfume? It’s not hot boys. 2-3 sprays should suffice, not 6-7 sprays.

Side note. Perhaps (?) there is a place for local governments supporting the funding of independent local media- in a similar way to the ABC. Ie, funding without the expectation of favourable treatment, various firewalls to ensure independence. Totally spitballing here…
Keeping local governments accountable is fast becoming an endangered skill. And local governments obviously have more resources to employ people than media companies. We need to support early career journos in being brave enough to ask difficult questions of powerful people and institutions

Mini rant. I got a notification that the QPRC (local council) is hiring a “cadet journalist”. Uhh…
Don’t get me wrong, this would be a great gig for a PR student. But we really can’t have local governments hiring cadet journos. And it’s a really sad state of affairs to see this happening

Also contract boi spring is over, welcome to Criminal Law and Procedure spring-early summer.
Crime is bad, don’t do crime etc, but the louvre heist is giving me Wes Anderson-esque whimsy that I didn’t know I needed.
