I don’t understand why people whine about wealthy people leaving if taxes are too high.

If people do not want to contribute to society, they are welcome to see themselves out. It’s not like they contribute now 🤷

A long time ago, downtown Seattle had free public transit. It revitalized the city, IMO.

✅ Raised crosswalks function as speed tables that physically compel drivers to slow down.

✅ This places pedestrians higher in the driver’s field of vision, while signaling a pedestrian-priority zone.

✅ They create a seamless, barrier-free path for all users by maintaining a level surface.
There's a new raised crosswalk in town

What are local electeds doing about conditions at the SCORE jail ? It is not enough to stand up to ICE while ignoring how our carceral state is failing to protect the health & safety of those impacted by system.

SCORE Jail is in Des Moines; owned Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Renton, SeaTac, Tukwila

H.R. 1 dedicated $45 BILLION to detention center expansion and we know that ICE/DHS is ACTIVELY trying to expand their detention capacity in the Seattle area.

That’s why I just introduced emergency legislation to institute a citywide moratorium to stop new or expanded detention centers in Seattle.

Arrests can also really fuck with immigration processes too…
…. An arrest, even without formal charges or conviction, will typically appear on criminal background checks because law enforcement records of the detention persist. While not a conviction, this record can negatively affect employment… disturbing all of these unlawful arrests 😡

NIMBY-zone these MFs to hell.

Make them pass design review.

Require lengthy community feedback processes for any "law enforcement" headquarters.

ICE is not welcome here!

Land use is something municipalities have a lot of control over…

Cities should make abducting people very expensive and difficult in any way that they can.

Opposing this bill mandating 72 hrs of notice for immigration raids and opposing Rep Reed’s bill to make college more affordable…

Sounds like the faculty and staff unions need to help the @uofwa.uw.edu come up with better lobbying priorities…
Republican speaker gets gaveled for just reading a letter from the opponents of this bill, which are mostly businesses and also the @uofwa.uw.edu who are saying they'll get sued if they don't follow the law in the bill. #waleg

The $38.3 billion they are going to spend for interment camps could fund the annual budget of NASA, the EPA, and all clean energy R&D at the Department of Energy—combined.
Breaking news: ICE expects to spend $38.3 billion on its plan to acquire warehouses across the U.S. and retrofit them into immigrant detention centers that can hold tens of thousands of people, according to agency documents.

The Rainforests, ecologies, food-ways, histories, cultures, and sustainable infrastructure that existed in the Pacific Northwest were maintained for *millennia* by the Indigenous folks of the Pacific Northwest; Coast Salish and beyond

prior to the arrival of settler colonialism and capitalism.
This is supposed to say “clear cut” lol

I’m talking about our temperate rainforests that white settler colonialists destroyed for profit.

Not just rainforests; ecologies, food-ways, histories, cultures, and sustainable infrastructure.

Everyone in the Pacific Northwest needs air conditioning now because we clear the existing air conditioning system for colonial profit

idk I grew up reading old marvel comics from the library, so anti-nazi propaganda is pretty baked in for me (appreciatory)

We all deserve a four day work week!!!
Today I’m iving my Martha Stewart fantasy — I went to the grocery store, made salami sandwiches for lunch, bought curtains and drapery hardware, did laundry, and cleaned the kitchen…

Now I’m having a martini, and then I’m going to bake cookies for some neighbors.

I love not working on Fridays.

Now, a study from University of East London looks at ways to restore some of the "sponginess" the city has lost, protecting vulnerable homes & businesses.

The funny thing about residential zoning though is, put that business in a car and suddenly it's OK!

Services that go to someone's house, gig work food delivery and ride apps, etc are all businesses operating in residential zones, but since they're on wheels, it gets around local zoning.

After housing, this is the next big zoning reform: the right to do business. Always found it odd that the USA, supposedly the land of the free market, makes it the hard if not outright illegal to open a business in most places.

Like many other planning failures, this one's also rooted in racism.
The al pastor taco truck at sleepy North Berkeley BART is booming every night with neighbors, cyclists and families. Imagine what we could do with fully legalized street vending citywide.

A lot of residential only zoning in California traces back to anti Chinese laundry services and general anti saloon politics.
