-Discord is not requiring everyone to complete a face scan or upload an ID to use Discord
-The vast majority of people can continue using Discord exactly as they do today, without ever being asked to confirm their age

You know, I've talked about Stoat with someone before, where I got iffy when I heard it used AI.

regardless of the many morality-based arguments you can make against LLM usage, it's worth considering that there are many people with incredibly strong anti-LLM views, and those people tend to be minorities or other vulnerable groups. if it's only 0.01% of the codebase anyway, you should heavily consider putting in a little extra work to make that 0% and ensure that it stays that way: both from a business perspective to gain more users, and also just because it's a nice thing to do for people who are already struggling immensely with a world that's becoming more and more LLM-centric. thank you for reading and considering this, if you do. I'm happy to revert the commits since it's not all that much, once GitHub starts working anyways, since it's not all that much. I would heavily recommend you do and discontinue use of it at all and ban use of it in the future for the project at large. LLM slop code is the death of projects like this.

Stoat was once avoidable because it used AI, but then I heard it removed it after the feedback about it. I will be thinking about it.

this is a nothing statement and not a walk back, they're just repeating what was already in the initial press release and they said the same thing in the interviews they gave to certain outlets
a screenshot from the press release from discord which reads as follows: Privacy-Forward Age Assurance Age assurance is the foundation of this new experience and is designed to respect Discord users’ privacy and choice. Discord users can choose to use facial age estimation or submit a form of identification to its vendor partners, with more options coming in the future. Additionally, Discord will implement its age inference model, a new system that runs in the background to help determine whether an account belongs to an adult, without always requiring users to verify their age. Some users may be asked to use multiple methods if more information is needed to assign an age group.
