Started a thread in the other place and bringing it over here - I really think we should be more vocal about the opportunities that lay at the intersection of these two options!

So I'm starting a live thread of new roles as I become aware of them - feel free to add / extend / share :
Life situations are bleak right now for a lot of people. In tech, the "Venn Diagram" of (1) positive work and (2) making enough money to support your family is increasingly non-overlapping. We all do what we can.

Make the review process for all conferences fully open like ICLR and TMLR. Among other things, this will deter submissions of half baked papers.

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

For the last several years, I’ve been working on a detailed plan for how America can rebuild it’s industries and create prosperity for all while ending climate change. We’re calling it the Mission for America. It’s like the Green New Deal with the details filled in.

NIH funding supports the vast majority of all biomedical research in the United States. Virtually every advance in American medicine and biological science comes from NIH. This is a blow against American science.

Call Congress, 202-224-3121.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

For once in my life I feel old enough (28) or out-of-touch to the point that I don’t understand why other Americans (unless most of them are bots?) online are outraged by TikTok being banned or happy that it’s back…especially given its background.

Friends in industry: As 2024 comes to a close, if your budget has room, consider joining the sponsors of the Summer Geometry Initiative (SGI)! SGI is entering year 5 with a proven track record bringing a diverse set of brilliant students into graphics/vision/ML/math research.

Beyond lots of beautiful, deep, award-winning research in geometry processing, he's just a terrific person who we already miss having around.

SLAM algorithms struggle on endoscopy videos - specularity, textureless, & dynamic lighting.

We introduce a Near-Field Light Bundle Adjst. loss (NFL-BA): improves performance of SOTA SLAM, e.g. MonoGS (⬆️35% in tracking, ⬆️48% in mapping).

In today's publication culture, most authors are after being SOTA, showing tables with 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝 numbers, and writing the minimum viable paper!

The goal of a scientific paper should be to push the field forward with new intuition/insights on how to think about solving a problem.
