Just discovered Anne Twomey has a YouTube channel explaining constitutional issues.

Funnily she mentions that YTs analytics say she zero <18yo subscribers, but the comments say otherwise.

Hot tip kids, sign up as an adult and then watch law vids and you won't get booted!

Is the "ban" on under-16s from YouTube constitutionally valid?

Whilst electricity emissions dropped 3.3%, 2025 Q3 electricity emissions for NEM + SWIS were only down 1.2% on last year and they're still higher than 2023 Q3.

Probably a combination of higher overall demand and the VRE build-out not keeping pace..

Separately - it would be great if we had an efficient housing market where an increase in rates didn't lead to rent increases..
November 26, 2025 at 2:41 AM
The biggest contributor to inflation is housing, and the biggest part of that is electricity (⬆️ 37%) because rebates in WA and Queensland finished.

What good is a rate hike to solve that?

And a rate hike will just drive up rental prices which is the next biggest driver of housing inflation..

In other countries with bigger scale, less renewable resources, and existing nuclear IMO it makes sense to leave it in place and grow if the economics are right, but renewables will still be the bulk of new gen per China.

Below is the gas generation profile from the ISP, it's very different to nuclear.

Nuclear is expensive as it is, but having it sit around doing nothing for more than half the year makes it even more expensive per GWh.

Even at 25% of grid you'd likely only reduce gas by half, but at enormous cost.
November 24, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Hopefully there's alternatives developed for the last 5%, but getting to 95% clean grids would be an awesome result by itself. We just need to build a heap of VRE which is what we're struggling with now..
November 23, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Well for Oz we just need 10TWh per year or ~100PJ. If you worked on the same 5% gas assumptions with our trading partners, China would need about ~4000PJ of gas a year, Japan would need ~500PJ, South Korea would require ~150PJ (all Ember data, just eyeballed).

Similar to our current export volumes

Isn't this just the AEMO step change position? 2050 is VRE backed: by short term storage (battery); by long term storage (largely hydro); rarely by gas but when needed it is critical (see 6.4 of the ISP).

If we can get to a 95% VRE grid with 5% gas I'd take that..

Or put another way, Labor is putting money into a rail project that has been supported by the electorate at 2 state and 2 federal elections.
