If I've interpreted things correctly @seattlewxguy.bsky.social @joeboomzag.bsky.social, the stronger solutions show initial cyclogenesis focused in the red circle near the dry air intrusion aloft, while weaker solutions show it further north in the black circle near the baroclinic leaf.

Very difficult short-term forecast for the Pacific NW tomorrow. There remains a large amount of disparity in the evolution of a shortwave trough off the California coast that will determine the track and strength of a rapidly developing low that tracks northward tonight.

Not to get political or anything, but there’s basically a serial derecho going on over the N Rockies/Intermountain Region right now associated with a 972 mb low over S Alberta in the middle of December and that is, well, rather absurd.
