Today it’s important to reflect on balancing our circle of concern with our circle of influence. There are some things beyond our control. And if we spend too much energy focused on those things, we won’t have the energy to make the impact where we are most needed and influential.

This issue is more nefarious than it seems. The EPA emissions rules are more lenient for vehicles classified as light trucks. So instead of refitting their lines to meet the requirements, auto makers started pushing their trucks as every day vehicles today they make up 80% of new vehicle sales.
Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

It’s a food waste prevention app where vendors sell bags of their goods that would go to waste at the end of the day for low costs

Ronald Reagan very intentionally painted a picture of a Black welfare queen popping out babies to get a bigger check when he made the case for cutting welfare benefits. All the while knowing the largest percentage of welfare recipients were white.

Back in the day of printed encyclopedias I would sit and read through the volumes. I could tell you a lot about ants 😆
I strongly recommend everyone do research sometimes 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘯.
Look something up on Wikipedia. Go to the little citation. Follow it. Read the article it's referencing. Follow links to the original interview. Read the paper written by the interviewee
It genuinely makes you appreciate journalism

This is an incredible video discussing the economic decline of empires throughout history. Discussing common patterns across the prior three and why it appears the US is following those same patterns.

They remind me of the Minutemen from “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis. Written in 35 about a hypothetical scenario where an authoritarian government takes over the US. It’s scary how it seems like a documentary of MAGA’s rise.
The fact that ICE has military grade weapons should tell everyone, including the non-voters, that he's not leaving that White House without committing violence on the opposition.

Interested to see if the Xbox Ally X would make a good dev machine (coupled with a portable usbc monitor).
It runs Windows 11 home and it appears you can upgrade to Pro. That would be a convenient setup for travel. I’m all about consolidating devices.

What’s interesting to me is that on the surface, we’ve achieved the sci-fi vision of being able to talk to a computer and it being able to respond to our requests.
Like on the enterprise the crew could ask the computer and it’s done.
What’s missing is a society freed from capitalist exploitation

I think this is true in a deep and troubling way. I have been observing this too. I am getting old & maybe I’m wrong, but I really feel basic academic, critical and intellectual, attitudes that were normal and prominent 20 years ago seem to have eroded. I agree, we need to understand how and why.
The scenario in which there are oligarchs powerful enough to succeed at their AI con and force LLMs onto the rest of society is the outright fascist and dystopian scenario. That higher ed has largely capitulated to the scam means it had already been deskilled. We need to understand how and why.

Yall aren’t serious about this. You stood around and recorded video while a bunch of thugs tackled a 53 year old woman.
#NoKings event in Fairhope, Al.
A woman was arrested for "lewd conduct" because she was dressed in penis suit with a sign that said "No dick-tator"
3 cops on a 53 yo woman.

Don’t think we didn’t notice that dog whistle from Cuomo when he brought up 9/11. We’re used to it from establishment democrats. Like when Clinton all but asked if you want a n****r being the one to answer the phone in an emergency. Or when Biden said he talks well for a Black guy.

Ever work with something that tries to be so universally applicable that even the simplest tasks are a chore. Like what if you want to change the generic URL for a login provider to use your custom domain and you came across a ten step process with multiple substeps for each step.

My first year of college was 95. It was a golden era of hip hop
Nas, Biggie, Pac, Mobb Deep, WuTang (both group and individual ), The Roots
And that’s just hip hop
No Doubt with Don’t Speak
Alanis Morrissette popped of with Jagged Little Pill
Maxwell, D’Angelo, Lauryn, Erykah

Maxwell‘s Embrya for some people it was too much of a departure from his first album. t
To me it was him evolving an experimenting with his sound. Even the cover art evokes a sense that he is giving birth to a new sound. The opening track sounds like voices heard from within the womb.

If business as usual worked it would’ve worked by now. Andrew Como is what’s wrong with the Democratic Party. He primaried as democrat and when he wasn’t selected, he said he was gonna run anyway the people spoke and said they didn’t want him as their representative for Mayor but he’s running anyway

Last one I saw was Colombiana. We drove out to find one just to let our kids experience it. We saw a double feature for them Spy Kids 3 or four and Adventures of Captain Underpants. Colombiana was the late show.
