Miami Hurricanes beat writer for the South Florida Sun Sentinel. He/Him. Posting through it. These are crazy days but they make me shine. Tips/jokes: [email protected]
Nothing crazy on Miami’s initial injury report for Saturday’s game against Pitt. Charles Brantley, who has played sparingly this season, is listed as out.

Defensive lineman David Blay Jr. is listed as questionable.

Pitt RB Desmond Reid is listed as questionable.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Someone the Hurricanes be thankful for this year is freshman Malachi Toney, who has quickly risen to one of the nation’s most explosive players.

And remember, he should still be in high school.

I can’t believe my wife turned me into a turkey trot person.

This person should not be working for Vanity Fair. Or anywhere in journalism, for that matter.
Hey, congratulations to all of Olivia Nuzzi’s horny media critic defenders. Heckuva job!

NEW: Hurricanes freshman star Malachi Toney's first taste of the big stage was disastrous.

But that disaster helped mold him into who he is today: not just one of the best freshmen in the nation, but one of the nation's most electric players.

Got a story coming up that I think y'all will like.

And thankfully, it's not about the playoffs.

NEW: With one week left in the regular season, can the Hurricanes make the CFP?

Yes! Here’s how!

Plus, the ACC JUST released the scenarios for each team to make the ACC title game, which is included in here.

Can Miami still make the College Football Playoff? Yes, here’s how
The Hurricanes are No. 12 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings. They are on the bubble, with a chance to make the field. But it Is far from guaranteed.

"Miami, again is a team that … really appears that they’re starting to look like the Miami team that started 5-0." - CFP selection committee chair Hunter Yurachek.

On Miami's loss to SMU, CFP chair Hunter Yurachek said "it definitively is viewed differently than it was versus an unranked SMU team."

In non-CFP news, one of my dogs stole a loaf of bread out of a bag in the kitchen, so now I’m calling her Jean Valjean.

Interesting that CFP chair Hunter Yurachek has said multiple times that Miami is starting to look like the team they were from the first few weeks.

You know, the team that beat Notre Dame.

If Miami is once again the team that can beat ND now, shouldn't they be in over ND?

Yurachek on Miami: "The committee has seen good, consistent play from Miami over the last three weeks. … He looks like the Carson Beck they had to start the season. They appear back on track. They started in this poll at 18 and they're up to 12."
November 26, 2025 at 1:15 AM
CFP chair Hunter Yurachek said Miami and Notre Dame were in the same comparison group but the committee still slotted UM behind Alabama, BYU and the Fighting Irish.

But he did credit their consistency and Carson Beck's strong play.

My maybe-bold-maybe-not-bold prediction is that if Miami beats Pittsburgh by 10 or more, they will get in the College Football Playoff.

Booger McFarland: "I ain't gotta look at (metrics). I just go back and turn the tape on when I saw these two teams play. That's the metric that I need. ... If we're splitting hairs, I just go back and watch the tape."

"Those people in that room think Notre Dame is better than Miami. Period." ESPN CFP Insider Heather Dinich says.

Notre Dame sticks at No. 9 after obliterating Syracuse. If destroying an opponent doesn't move them up, that might be their ceiling without someone else losing.

Miami now has a ranked loss, with SMU entering at No. 21. They can get a ranked win with a W vs. No. 22 Pittsburgh this week.
