Library Clerk and geek of many stripes (comics, board games, anime, manga, fairy tales, etc). Nerdy enough to watch anime. Old enough to not give a damn if someone calls them "Japanese cartoons".
People keep saying that Captain America would support right wing actions when we've had USAgent since the '80s for a reason!

(And even Walker wouldn't go that far).

I've been working my way through the early Justice Society of America stuff. So, does anyone know if the JSA ever do any crimefighting together? Because the JSA meet, discuss a problem, and then go off to have individual adventures related to tge problem. They don't even pair off like Fox's JLA.

Oh, we're starting with the betrayal of Snapper Carr. This is going to be rough. I like Snapper. I've liked Snapper since I read JLA: Year One.

Had to get out of the house yesterday because I was going a little stir crazy. Because I had the Justice League on my mind, I went to acomic shop and bought this. I haven't read much of the Sattelite era. I should also try some more of the Detroit period.

A less than heroic TV pilot: tinyurl.com/48ww9yv7

Okay, so I'm writing a blog post about the 1997 JLA pilot. And I want to make the argument that it's not bad because it doesn't have the platonic ideal "Big 7" League but because it's just a bad pilot. So now I'm explaining the history of the JL in all its forms. And . . . it's kind of a lot now.

Okay, so if there's one thing I think we can all agree on, it's that the but original design for Flip the Frog is way better than the second one. (Second one isn't even frog-shaped).

Okay, so I started playing Marvel Cosmic Invasion. And now I kind of want the same kind of thing for DC characters. And I want a lot of the characters to be JLI guys. And maybe a couple of Outsiders.

(Yeah, I'm kind of reeling in '80s/'90s nostalgia here).

Was just rewatching the failed '97 JLA pilot so I can write a blog post about it. It's a bad pilot but I find it fascinating in some ways. It's like someone tried to create a cross between Friends, The Real World and Lois and Clark with a mash-up of the '70s and late '80s Justice Leagues. [CONT]

It's kind of mind-boggling that we were worried about Looney Tunes disappearing from TV. I mean, there are all sorts of theatrical cartoons that aren't seen anymore (Lantz, Van Bueren, Iwerks, Terrytoons, Famous, etc). And others that are kept a tight lid on (Disney). But LT and T&J were neither.
TCM will become the “ongoing home” of the LOONEY TUNES library.

A six-year licensing deal for more than 750 shorts starts in Feb.

"We’re able to present these cartoons with the care they deserve alongside the classic films they helped influence."

Well, now that I've reacquainted myself with all the awful things going on in the world, I should go write that blog post about Felix the Cat . . .

Gregory Bovino must also be fired.

So, I was just trying to watch a "Who will be in the DCU Justice League?" prediction video on YouTube and . . . is it just me or have Justice League roster discussions just gotten more boring since Morrison's run back in '97?

Got some new Golden Age era cartoons in the mail! Ub Iwerks's Flip the Frog and the OTHER Tom & Jerrry. Will they be good? Will they be bad? Will they be uncomfortably racist? I aim to find out!

(At this point, my cartoon collection is just whatever catches my eye).

I know it ended up tripping headfirst into being a '90s comics stereotype. But I like how it used American youth culture signifiers from the past (biker jacket, earring, etc) to show that the Kid was more of a restless, rough-edged "delinquent" and thus a contrast to the more straight-laced Clark.

These characters were still fairly big and well-known for a while, though. Arguably longer than they normally should be. The pop culture of the Baby Boomer generation looms large in general, just because of what a large generation it was. [CONT]
Still find it funny that the Ninja Turtles are as old now as these characters were when this drivel was farted out, and only one of these characters is still in use in any meaningful way today, and even then only as a cereal mascot.

Lot of people talking about that new Star Trek show.

But me, I'm not reupping Paramount+ until Strange New Worlds comes back. Then I'll at least have two shows to watch.
