Important reminder that the Founders wrote the Constitution, especially the executive branch components, with an eye towards the Convention’s chair. His later warnings in his Farewell Address are all too prescient today.
re-reading the federalist papers for a project and it's striking how many of our current problems can be traced back to the fact that the guys who designed our government just could not fathom a sociopathic president.

Who’s Down with EBP?
To everyone saying the lines at Houston Rec Center are long and I should go elsewhere:

Houston Rec is the closest one to me and the only one I can walk to, because we're a car-free household. I'm guessing there are pretty good reasons for the turnout imbalance between locations!

One of my kids is reading Fahrenheit 451 in school right now. She’s asking questions.

It got me thinking about kids that are reading 1984 today and they come across:

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Watching the MN Governor’a press conference.

Let’s put it this way: There’s a murderer at large in Minnesota and there’s no discussion of MN law enforcement’s efforts to apprehend the suspect.

Bonus:

Daughter: Did we bomb Venezuela?

Me: Yeah. And kidnapped their president and his wife.

Daughter: I’m too pretty to get drafted and go to war.

Me: 🫤

Years after a wave of strikes spurred raises for educators, many still struggle to get by.

When we were younger, my sister and I talked about the frightful Boogie Claus. Who knew it was a real thing?

It's Christmastime — and if you live in the Alps, watch out! Krampus is coming
In Salzburg, Austria, Christmas involves both St. Nick and Krampus, a mythological punisher with roots stretching back to late antiquity and many fans in the present-day Central Alps.

Excellent thread here. Too bad it has come to this with the @washingtonpost.com
WaPo is no longer an option that I feel good about but I want to continue getting a physical paper delivered to my house as I've done my entire life. The other options seem to be NYT, WSJ and USA Today. Should I subscribe to USA Today?? I must be truly desperate if I'm even considering this

NEA Lock Out Day 12-We remain locked out. My colleagues in Campaigns & Elections are getting even more frustrated. As I said Sunday: "What a time to be alive and NOT actually working in politics." This is unsustainable and our health insurance expires July 31. This is NOT union values.
July 24, 2024 at 12:36 AM
Lockout Day 6. Fun fact. Unlike many employers, the NEA does not offer annual COLAs. Our last contract didn’t keep up normal inflation, much less what we ended experiencing. Our ask is 4% for each year of our 3 year contract. Essentially, we’re asking for a COLA.
