Spacious and crustaceous.
'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2' (2015)

Look, it's DeathBlart time so it had to be watched, but I'd argue that a Segway is a perfectly cromulent type of automobile.

This film is like a terrible and immensely comforting all enveloping wave of overcooked oatmeal, slowly suffocating you, but in a comfy way.

'The Phoenician Scheme' (2025) Visually as arresting as ever, but I can't quite shake the feeling that Wes Anderson is a bit of a one trick pony.

Felt like it was missing a reason, warmth, or heart.

Some funny parts, but I really wish he'd try something different.

I remain very into his women.

'Transformers One' (2024)
Huge fun. Great animation, a solid story, lots of rollicking action. I enjoyed this a lot, and whilst I'm not a Transformers stan, I'm really pleased that the IP has a solid entry that's not tainted by Michael Bay.
Grateful for Bumblebee being one of the featured bots.

'Locked' (2025) Solid. Very glossy, and the leads absolutely elevate it and make it an enjoyable watch not really doing much original or making any ground-breaking points about how we live in a society, but that's fine.

'Death Race' (2008) I'm a Paul W.S. Anderson defender (cough cough Event Horizon) but this commits the cardinal sin of being boring. Wanted to be Carmageddon x WipeOut but failed at both. Bah.

'Death Race 2050' (2017)

Am I not tough?

Am I not a guy?

Perfect homage to the original in spirit and execution, lots of trashy fun and just oh so quotable.

I'll be re-watching this in years to come.

'Death Race 2000' (1975)

I have a very soft spot for this film... I had the poster on my wall as a youth.

It's just the right amount of silly and holds up well imho.

Like Vanishing Point x Rollerball.

'Honey Money Phony' (2024) Cute, funny, shiny and glossy.
Another one to add to the rom-com-con list, which I didn't really clock as a genre but I guess it is?

Like a holiday paperback, but a film, and that's a positive. Fun and cute and upbeat and unchallenging.

No bees, but honey so... okay.

'Kinds of Kindness' (2024) I need to go back and watch The Lobster, The Favourite, and Killing of a sacred deer and work out if I ever really did like Yorgos Lanthimos' work, because he's been on a losing streak for a while with me now.

'Shell' (2024) Never quite leaned into the premise enough to really sell the reveal at the end and I'm not sure that Elisabeth Moss was the right call for the lead here.

Enjoyable enough, but a bit like a prestige TV episode run long.

'Nosferatu' (2024) Vibes were off going in, and yeah. I was right.
Amazing sound design, Willem Dafoe is as nuanced as ever and Ralph Ineson is just fun to be around when he's rumbling.
Why does everyone else talk like that??
Not a fan of leaning into the Eastern European/Romani/Jewish tropes

Every so often, I think about one of the small dogs on the internet and I cry until I'm snotty.

This has the same energy as Adrien Brody's art.

'Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels' (1998) still good fun and painfully late 90s.

I remember this coming out and just fully exploding in a wave of 90s cool Britannia and lad culture.

Watched this time for the most tenuous of bee links, thanks Sting for getting me a sort of bee in London.

'An American Werewolf in London' (1981) remains one of my all time favourite films. Always funnier, sadder, and more gruesome than I remember.

'Femme' (2023) has been on the list for a while.

Some great performances, but it's felt unclear in its direction at times and didn't let us really get to know either of our leads as deeply as they deserved.

If I had to explain 2025 to a time traveller, I'd show them this.

Gender related book bans are ridiculous. I don't believe you can artificially induce body dysmorphia in others that way.

Having said that, I bought my dog a jumper for cats that looks a little bit like a mouse, so fuck knows what her internal identity conversation looks like at the moment.

'It Chapter Two' (2019) Enjoyed this a lot more this time around. Cosmic horror and some great set pieces.

Fun times.

Bill Hader's underrated.
