I'm glad.

But yeah, if you're putting down 600 a day for a few days a week and then taking little breaks here and there I'd say you're doing significantly better than most.

So I think maybe 4hrs total in an average week as a pure hobbyist writer.

I'm not at all consistent so most weeks it's 0.

When I was consistent I'd write for an hour on Fridays typically. Maybe 2-3 other days over the week where I'd have longer sessions but because it was in between stuff at work the count didn't change much.

There's a lot I want to do with this character. If I ever get to play him in a dnd game I'll be very happy.
November 25, 2025 at 2:49 AM
When I actually sit myself down to write I can usually do between 600-1500 words in a session.

He's like 17-19 depending on my mood and spent his life on a pirate ship. Sailors weren't even allowed to take him to a brothel on pain of death by the adopted pirate mom so yeah, boy's surprisingly romantically sheltered.

Given his inexperience Reven here probably starts off trying to be smooth and suave the way he thinks he's supposed to but the minute he gets a woman flirting with him he falls to pieces

It lines up pretty strongly with the calls on the right to eliminate the 19th amendment. -_-

No thought that I do this in order to ensure my family can see me without risk or incident. None at all. -_-

Yesterday I had another in a growing list of older ladies tease me about my mask. When I asked her not to she was like "well I was just wondering if I'm ever going to see your handsome face again."

As though her desire for eye candy was more important than my health and safety. -_-

Even Kyokushin karate which is known for its head kicks mostly uses low leg and body kicks in actual practice that I've seen. They need to catch you slipping to land that head shot.

Thanks a bunch for that!

Very much agree with this. One of my favorite phrases is "I don't lie when it serves no purpose."

The number of people who miss the deeper meaning in that is astonishing.

As for the day job...

It was strategy. Libraries gave me a place where I'd see a lot of books, see what was being published and who was putting it out so I could submit portfolios.

I also think people overdo it on the size. For most people they're getting way more bird than they need and aren't practicing on smaller birds elsewhere in the year.

I've thought about spatchcocking turkey for years but wouldn't dare without practicing on some chickens first.

This is a thing I worry about a lot. Because I also don't want to reach a place where I become hostile and unwilling to aide people out of misplaced anger they didn't earn. It really would be time to leave at that point because I'd be doing more harm than good.

It's not about getting to the truth for these folks. It's about feeling like the real problem is the stuff they already don't like or can't accept, or that tells them they're the messed up ones.

Meanwhile, those of us on the other parts of the spectrum are just seeing many things being vindicated
November 23, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Case in point. It also ties to this idea that "we know the republicans are awful" that basically nullifies their agency. That "there's nothing I can do about that," line from the GF's mom is the thing that makes me really think this idea has legs.
Nothing is quite as depressing as listening to my GF's mom, the archetypical median Trump voter, talk about how she didn't hear anything about the Epstein emails, and then get mad at her daughter for explaining what they were.

She still supports Trump because, "there's nothing I can do about that."

And I think there are a lot of people who even if they won't *say* they support the republicans they believe a lot of the same things and are studiously checking out until something confirms their biases.

They wanted it to be lefties so they could claim that was the real monstrous heart of things.
November 23, 2025 at 7:43 PM
These people believe that if you care about equal rights, are LGBTQIA or supportive of any policy even marginally considered left you're a bad person.

They wanted to see those folks as the face of the worst kinds of wickedness.

That it'll be so many republicans doesn't do that!
