Hey y'all. Grief work is good and holy.

Interesting to note that the precursor to arguably Jesus' most amazing miracle (the raising of Lazarus) was Jesus ministering to Martha and Mary in their grief - and, in fact, being moved with grief alongside them.

Before his first run, there were a lot of voices saying “Don’t worry! There will be checks and balances!”

Nobody was saying that before his second run. Because they knew.

BECAUSE THEY KNEW.

A thread from over at the bad place.

If you know of Heath Lambert as a leader in Christian counseling circles or SBC circles, this might be of some interest to you. Or not. I don't know. 🤷‍♂️ threadreaderapp.com/thread/18948...

@DrAaronNew: I have been a vocal critic of how Heath Lambert conducts himself, primarily in the counseling world, but periodically in the SBC world. Both of those are of interest and important to me. ...

The President of the United States has criticized an ally for not surrendering to an invading army sent by an enemy dictator.

He literally blamed them for the war because they didn’t just surrender.

The U.S. should absolutely stand with Ukraine. This is embarrassing.

"We do no harm to the virtue of 'courage' by suggesting that every day life can often require a great deal of courage. As Aquinas argued, endurance is the better part of courage, and endurance is precisely what mental health challenges call for."
Today's unlocked post is about courage and agency and mental health: "To develop habits of courage with mental health is to learn to endure for the good of God, neighbor, and life."

Y’all. Southern Baptists deserve better.
Christian counseling deserves better.

Do not listen to Heath Lambert. /end

There will come a day, I’m sure, when I will ignore Heath Lambert. But that day is not today.

He is influential in at least 2 of my own circles - Southern Baptist ones and Christian counseling ones. So I still feel compelled to speak.

You know what, let's not give pyromaniacs flamethrowers. You might want to offload the dirty work of starting a few fires because you like to see things burn. But you're gonna end up with a scorched earth instead.

As you see news of Trump appointing Paula White-Cain to lead the White House Faith Office, here's your reminder that she's, you know, a charlatan.

A bunch of evangelicals are gonna cheer this news anyway.

And I give up.

I'm definitely a product of midwestern conservative evangelicalism in the 1980s. And while neither my home church nor my family went bonkers over it, I can absolutely remember the Satanic panic and fear that sort of permeated everything. open.spotify.com/episode/3GLG...

The highest compliment from someone who disagrees with you is not “You were right.” It’s “You made me think.”

Good arguments help us recognize complexity where we once saw simplicity.

The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It’s to promote critical thinking.

Composure, Saints! This is a vital witness to our faith in Christ in any era of chaos.

Upon waking, let us meet with Jesus and trade our fear & anger for his courage & compassion.

Rely on God.
Read Scripture.
Be brave.
Pray valiantly.
Act like grownups.
Help the hurting.
Love defiantly.

So with Trump attempting to stop congressionally determined spending it's fair to say we have entered into a constitutional crisis, yeah?

The whole point of congress is to control where, how, and when funds are appropriated.

Trump blocking that, even temporarily, is usurping that power.

Folks, please remember to take care of yourselves.

The tsunami of bad news we are experiencing is not normal and taking it all on with zero breaks is not healthy.

Log off. Unplug. Breathe.

If we don't, we won't make it through these next four years.

Well, Walmart sure can’t afford that. Bankruptcy for sure.

Solution? Put homeless people in jail for a year.

4.4 million. Some of those children live in your state. In your city. Maybe in your neighborhood.
