Two amazing threads on the politics and culture behind Bad Bunny's superbowl performance. bsky.app/profile/beck...
Puerto Rico hasn't had reliable power in a decade.

The grid sends occasional surges through the wires that fry appliances.

Electricity rates are among the highest in the entire U.S.

Heat waves are getting intense in the summer, and outages mean A/C is no guarantee for an aging population.

Bad Bunny’s show is exactly why I don’t agree with people who say climate is no longer at the forefront. Climate is intrinsically tied to issues of justice. If you can’t see that, it says more about how narrow you view climate and less about what is happening. Literal power lines. I mean, come on!

The NYT fired everyone who knew that sugar cane is kinda important to Puerto Rico.

They're dumber than dogshit over there. This is so fucking embarrassing.
At the start of his Super Bowl performance, Bad Bunny appeared in a field of green grass wearing a jersey featuring the number “64.” Fans immediately started tossing out theories about what the number meant.
What Was the ‘Ocasio 64’ Reference on Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Look?
And where did his suit come from? The answers may surprise.

Good. Then YOU won't have any problem with us going in with cameras to confirm that to the people.

I have appreciated Amanda’s efforts here so I’m disappointed she’s wrapping things up by spreading misinformation. I can assure you as someone whose neighborhood has been crawling with ICE in recent days that we are not in the “aftermath” of anything.

He shouldn't pretend body cams are a real concession. He should follow the example of Van Hollen, whose visit to Kilmar Abrego Garcia was instrumental in triggering a national shift on attitudes toward Trump immigration actions. I could list more, but those are a few of the things he could do. [4/4]

He should be creating a list of planned facilities (which are extremely unpopular with most Americans) and encouraging candidates to fight them. Localities are already succeeding at this. Where they can't succeed, they're finding clever ways to punish contractors who collaborate with them. [3/4]

The country is furious about what's going on. 86% of Ds and 47% of independents nationwide support *abolishing* ICE. He should offer a vision of how ICE & CBP can be fundamentally diminished or dismantled, even if he can't do it today. Creating a road map generates pressure and possibilities. [2/4]

Some people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

Maura Healey is now the only Democratic governor in the whole country with a 287(g) agreement. It is shameful that she insists on collaborating with a rogue, fascist agency.
NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.

Abigail Spanberger left the 287(g) program, which empowered state law enforcement to detain immigrants. Will Democrats also bar local police and sheriffs from the program?

Peter Thiel has been open about this for a long time. Trump is a way to break the republic, which can then be replaced by “free economic zones” with oligarchs as dictators and tech as a taskmaster for helpless humans without any rights. (1/2)
Definitely seems like they destroyed the country on purpose.
