'A Wiltsire Landscape,' (1928) casts up an early morning mood - a magic realm. By the time of this work, William Nicholson had married Edie Stuart-Wortley and moved to the Old Manor House in the village of Sutton Veny in Wiltshire.

Do pubs still have vaults? Just thinking about my nanna. She was a barmaid, & I spent a lot of time in the pub when I was little, sitting behind the door with a bottle of coke. I once wondered into the Vault & I have this haunting image of a load of old men supping in silence, & being wrenched out.

My lovely friends have taken over Limestone Books in Settle. I went up & spent up on Sunday. They’ve done a complete restock & it’s got everything from small publishers to the big hitters. It’s very well curated & full of surprises. Please pop in if you’re passing (it’s opposite Ye Olde Naked Man).
