When I was a kid I thought those FASA models were ships that appeared in movies I hadn’t seen yet! Love the Romulan designs, especially the Winged Defender.

Love the Excelsior-class Enterprise-A but imagine if that was the big reveal at the end of The Voyage Home! The fans back then would’ve self-immolated! 😂

Sorry, I’m distracted by the gorgeous early Mac OS X with the pinstripes.

You've gotta have the "scrambled eggs" on the bill to show everyone you're not just a fan of McDonalds, you're the Captain of McDonalds!

After I saw Star Trek IV, my language suddenly became peppered with "damns" and "hells" which mortified my parents who considered "doo-doo" to be a curse word. Of course they made me knock it off.

"Doctor, why are we grasping a cylindrical air filter?"
"It's a metaphor, Spock."
"A metaphor for what?"
"You don't want to know."

The fact that you remain a decent person in this hideously indecent world is proof that there's an inner core of strength in you, even if you can't feel it right now. Keep going. People are pulling for you.

Have you ever read the book? It already is.

This establishing shot of Federation HQ strongly reminded 8-year-old me of EPCOT Center, with the trapezoidal and wheel-shaped buildings that evoked Horizons and World of Motion. It helped cement the idea in my mind that the Horizons future and the Star Trek future were one and the same.

The movie also gives us the very first taste of Mike Okuda's graphic design genius. The first Okudagrams we see integrate flawlessly with the existing backlit graphics that date from TMP's production in the late 70s.

Star Trek IV was the last time we saw the movie-era Bridge set before it was repurposed to serve as various TNG locations. We first see it as the Saratoga bridge (still in its Grissom configuration from TSFS) and it never looked better. The darker lighting and brightly-backlit displays really pop.
