Tommorownaut. Cynical optimist. Dreamer. Lover of Star Trek, EPCOT Center, Monorails, PeopleMovers, and other trappings of the great big beautiful tomorrow we never got.
Um, what?

Now here's a Black Friday deal I can get behind! (Of course, in order to get the "free" case you had to buy a PowerBook, and the cheapest model was $2149 in 1993 dollars—about $4830 today.)

Time to make restaurant reservations!

The fact that you remain a decent person in this hideously indecent world is proof that there's an inner core of strength in you, even if you can't feel it right now. Keep going. People are pulling for you.

This establishing shot of Federation HQ strongly reminded 8-year-old me of EPCOT Center, with the trapezoidal and wheel-shaped buildings that evoked Horizons and World of Motion. It helped cement the idea in my mind that the Horizons future and the Star Trek future were one and the same.

The movie also gives us the very first taste of Mike Okuda's graphic design genius. The first Okudagrams we see integrate flawlessly with the existing backlit graphics that date from TMP's production in the late 70s.

Star Trek IV was the last time we saw the movie-era Bridge set before it was repurposed to serve as various TNG locations. We first see it as the Saratoga bridge (still in its Grissom configuration from TSFS) and it never looked better. The darker lighting and brightly-backlit displays really pop.

My favorite Star Trek movie was released OTD in 1986. I love everything about The Voyage Home; it's perfect all the way through. Happy Star Trek IV Day, and a double dumb ass on everyone!

Introduce yourself with four spaceships. (Only 4? This is hard.)

WDW website lists Restaurant Marrakesh as "temporarily unavailable" even though they literally turned into a lounge. What else is "temporarily unavailable"? The Contemporary North Garden Wing? Tom Sawyer Island? The Astuter Computer Revue?

We’re dogsitting for my brother-in-law while him and his wife are out of town. Our chihuahua, Leeta, is finally learning to coexist with her energetic younger cousin. His name is Tony.

Also from the June '79 issue of Starlog. Harlan Ellison was a good man, but he was also a complete and total ass.

From the letters column of the June 1979 Starlog. Gee, 12 Star Wars movies? What an incredibly fanciful pipe dream!

Cooler weather has arrived in Florida, meaning it’s one of the few times of year I get to wear this!

Came out my front door a little before 6:30 this morning and saw this. Either a satellite was falling out of the sky or Chakotay was crashing another shuttlecraft.

My biggest regret about the end of the Kelvin universe is that we'll never see any more of this stunning beauty.
