Ken Sim and ABC just gutted the Social Housing Initiative. That's not pro-housing: that's full NIMBY.

Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver just killed the Social Housing Initiative. A program that could have actually gotten people off the streets and into homes? Dead.

Looking to outflank TEAM?
Mike Klassen just went full NIMBY in council just now, citing "principles of liveability" (a deeply NIMBY coded phrase) to apparently set the stage to justify his vote against legalizing more affordable social housing.

And sure enough, ABC voted against the Social Housing Initiative. Rank NIMBYism.

🧵
5 people have been killed on the roads in Metro Vancouver in the last week, including a driver, a cyclist, and 3 pedestrians, one of whom was a young child. Each of them had lives, families and friends, aspirations and potential that will not be realized. Each of them could have been me, or you.

Good times.
Remember when a bunch of terminally online Vancouver NIMBYs formed a party and ran for election, but held public events where no one was allowed to use cellphones in order to protect the identities of anonymous racist, abusive and likely insane Twitter trolls?

Tonight 40min dog walk: 4 cars running red lights (all different intersections) and 1 car accident. All on 4th.

We really need to get our shit together. Red light cameras at every intersection. Fine people into oblivion. All Fines go to transit.

It’s always this. A bunch of apoplectic dimwits predict apocalyptic outcomes from the smallest of concessions to pedestrians or cyclists and then after the concessions, when everything is fine, these goobers never admit they’re wrong and just move on to the next fake outrage.
I’m still waiting for my apology from Councillor Browaty and all the H8ters on Twitter.

I've been wanting to know when the 'Bitcoin Friendly City' report from staff would be presented. It was supposed to happed in the Fall. Now, staff say: "the motion has been deferred until further notice while staff focus their work on other Council priorities."

Any politician who does a photo op at a food bank should go straight into the wood chipper.
This report lays out that the non-profit sector is 20% of our economy as well as 20% of our jobs… this is not normal. The only reason this sector is so big is because inequality is so out of control. This is terrifying to me. As inequality grows, the people who give won’t be able to anymore.
A new report released by the Victoria Foundation shows the Capital Regional District's (CRD) charitable sector has significantly grown its local economic impact.
