Me: The internet didn't exist.

My son: Nevermind.

I think an interesting thing about Arc Raiders is if you queue solo, you're only matched against other solo players, so if you form some ad-hoc partnerships with the first person or two you meet, you're at a huge advantage against any solo players out to shoot first and loot someone.

Frankenstein on a men’s rights podcast: “we have to solve the male loneliness epidemic”
I'm now at the part of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein where the creature, like many young men, has decided, "A girlfriend will fix my identity crisis"

I had a great interaction today in Arc Raiders Stella where two guys were on opposite sides of a door and couldn't decide to trust each other so they were having a tense standoff, and I snuck up behind one of them and yelled "HEY GUYS, WHAT'S GOING ON?" into proximity voice chat and he screamed.

Hitting that country club was an idiotic move
Dang - how bad was the Border Patrol invasion in North Carolina?

None other than Thom Tillis himself is blasting DHS for gross overreach, and demanding lists of those detained, property damage caused by CBP agents, and their plan for restitution.

Fought a guy and his pal in Arc Raiders, went to his Twitch channel to see if he was streaming, and it turns out it was former NFL linebacker Bernardrick McKinney.

The text-to-speech technology that Arc Raiders uses for the NPC characters is pretty amazing. I would have sworn it was a real human giving a mediocre performance because they were getting poor direction in the recording studio.

It is increasingly clear that there is a crisis of trust in legacy media, five-alarm fire stuff. It is bad for any news outlet to have a reputation that wards off people it should be talking to, and the wary are growing in number

Maybe Don’t Talk to the New York Times About Zohran Mamdani
It’s remarkable, the people you’ll hear from. Teach for even a little while at an expensive institution—the term they tend to prefer is “elite”—and odds are that eventually someone who was a studen…

SCOOP: Schumer was more involved than reported with the attempted cave on the government shutdown. The Gang of 8 Senate Dems had his approval & he was getting daily updates.
In Thursday's caucus meeting, the Gang claimed they had 10 votes to cave. The caucus went nuts, leading to the new proposal.
Why Does Schumer Keep Trying to Cave? - The American Prospect
Most commentators, including me, concluded that the Tuesday election victory saved Democrats from capitulating to Republican demands to pass a simple continuing resolution to re-open the government, i...

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I understand the appeal of describing a comic in English and then having it manifest as if by magic because I've been doing that for around two decades, but you should at least make sure the word balloon tails point to the right speaker.

I think I'm ok with people who take the Space Marines completely seriously because it enables the 40k content I enjoy, the kind that treats the universe as an infinite canvas of weird little freaks.

Now, to people unfamiliar with the startup world, that might seem bad, but consider this: they also don't have a plan to turn a profit in the future.
ICYMI: Microsoft’s charge “implies a more than $12 billion quarterly loss at OpenAI, said Firoz Valliji, an analyst at Bernstein.”

That “would mark one of the largest single-quarter losses for a tech company in history.”

Hades II is amazing. There are nods to both Lattimore's and Wilson's Odyssey translations.

Lattimore: “Tell me, Muse, of the man of many ways…”
Wilson: “Tell me about a complicated man…”

Hades II: “Some know him as the man of many ways; certainly he is a complicated one.”
