Did you read the article? He wrote malicious source code that created a backdoor. The social engineering was necessary to get the user to run the malicious code. This has been standard practice in Trojans for decades.

Haven't played sf6, but sf5 worked out of the box. Checking protondb, sf6 has a good rating, with most people reporting it works out of the box.

90% of games run on Linux. The ones that don't are ones that use kernel level anti cheat stuff (note that anti cheat in and of itself is not a problem, FFXIV uses it and that runs flawlessly).
Non-gaming apps YMMV, but pretty much everything has a Linux alternative.

There's no point in hoping for anything ever getting better, because it never will. Life has progressively gotten worse and worse for the entire 45 years I've been alive and that trend will never be reversed. There is no point in hope.
