It's publication day for DEAD ENDS!

@drlindseyfitz.bsky.social & I hope you and your kids will love this look at how flukes and failures shaped medicine through history, & prove that sometimes a dead end is just a change of direction in disguise.

Here's a visual taster or two.

Is there a day for biers in the same way there is for windows, doors, gates and wood? If there isn't there should be

This C19 bier is interesting. It has a wagon roof framework (did that once hold fabric?) that looks like a #MortSafe #StAndrewStogursey #Somerset for #Woodensday

I bought these Drew Struzan posters for @tealcartoons.bsky.social - one of them signed by Struzan himself. I know what an influence he had on my husband. A real loss.

Does anyone have recommendations on sources concerning South Atlantic ocean currents and navigational routes in the 16th century? I see a lot of maps showing how Europeans got to Brazil, but not the return voyage. #earlymodern #histsci #skystorians

When does death begin?

In the 18th century, no one could agree—some said when the pulse stopped, others when the body began to rot. Out of that debate came a century of strange experiments on severed heads.

Adam Kay is an appreciated advocate for medical professionals, but I guess I just don’t get why the media continue to consider someone who last worked for the NHS in 2010, as the person to ask about “life on the NHS frontline”. The NHS frontline has changed more in the last 15yrs than ever before

Everyone knows at least one person (normally, but not exclusively, a guy) whose gone properly mental due to net rabbit holes.

We see public figures regularly go mad and destroy themselves.

And we have, at a policy level, just decided to put our fingers in our ears and go nahnahnah

Last night I heard of another friend of a friend who has been lost to a rabbit hole of online propaganda. We need to start treating this as a serious public health concern.

Hello everyone.

Just a quick update to let you know that I have had my surgery and I am back at home, where I am not allowed to do anything while I recover!

There were some complications over blood pressure which need looking at, so the next episode may continue to be slightly delayed. Sorry! 😢

The dental phantom was first created by the Glaswegian dentist Eduard Oswald Fergus a few years earlier as a tool for students to practice their craft before working on human subjects.
