For the @strangehorizons.bsky.social 2026 Criticism Special, I wrote about weird fiction being constituted by weird reading, vis a vis Sederholm and Woofter’s The Weird and @undertow.bsky.social’s The Best Weird Fiction of the Year, Vol. 1., in tribute to Maureen Kincaid Speller. It’s a long one.
The Brackish Pool: Towards a Critical Practice of Reading Weird Fiction
The ideal reader of the weird has to embrace a kind of wilful suspension of foreknowledge or generic expectation.

I love Wuthering Heights (the book) to death, but even to this day, I don't understand any of what Joseph said.

You’ve got to love how actress Kelly Marie Tran, one of the most harassed people ever to be on the internet, still leapt up to defend trans people in a recent interview. No one would blame her for keeping her head down and shutting up forever but she will NOT and I admire her for it ⭐
Star Wars actor says ‘trans rights are human rights’ when asked about Harry Potter
Kelly Marie Tran said ‘trans rights are human rights’ when the topic of JK Rowling's Harry Potter series was mentioned in an interview.

3 out of 5 stars to Zothique by Clark Ashton Smith

For the most part, these macabre stories are enjoyable. However, Smith's prose can sometimes get tedious and the stories reptitive. The Dark Eidolon is unmatched though.

The only thing trans people are guilty of is being hot and/or spending too much money on Warhammer figurines.
Transphobia is a cancer of the heart and mind.

It is a useless fear, based on ignorance and cruelty.

Trans people are not responsible for a single one of the problems we face.

Do the world a favor and grow the fuck up.

A day later and I refuse to believe Ryan Murphy wrote a show in which a terminally online antisocial misogynist… needed to have the terms Chad and incel explained to him.
Oh.

Oh my God.

We're introduced to a fat guy addicted to cam girls, he feels miserable and resentful towards women... and when he decides to take the Not!Substance, the seller outright tells him-

"You're an incel."

To which this fat guy who lives his life seemingly exclusively online replies...
... I can't tell if it's my soundbar, the audio compression or the sound mixing but I can't hear a single line of dialogue. Even cranking it up it's unintelligible.

Subs it is but *damn,* it shouldn't have to be.

We'll be celebrating with a spooky church walk, a flask of tea, and a Tregroes chocolate waffle. They're the absolute best!😀❤️

I watched episode 5 of the Mighty Nein this morning, Little Spark, and I immensely enjoyed Caleb's backstory. Like a twisted take on the fantasy farmboy trope. The animation, music, and tension were all so good.
Kudos to Liam O'Brien and Marisha Ray for their performances.
