HI everyone, my name is Zee and I am creating a fantasy game called Hereway set in a world inspired by Ancient Northern Europe. My major influences include my own historical studies, Mount and Blade, Crusader Kings, the Oregon Trail, the films of Hayao Miyazaki.

Thank you! This style definitely isn't a replacement for or necessarily better(or worse) than 2D art. Its a different way of doing things that has its own advantages and disadvantages. :)
Looks wonderful, but you should try making sure the player's wake is at the same texel density as the rest of the water

Cloud shading is two noise textures scrolling at different speeds.

I offset the sample point from the world-space position in the direction of the main light to make it look like the cloud layer is far away.

I take the minimum of the regular shadow map and of the clouds to get the attenuation

and yeah geometry nodes are complicated, but every geometry nodes set-up gets inserted in as its own custom modifier, which means its quite easy to integrate with everything else
All the geometry nodes stuff is precalculated in blender, I just export it with "apply modifiers" ticked. This is just one MeshInstance3D, with a shader that's designed to read the custom data I've stored in the UVs
honestly so relatable. I'm learning geometry nodes at the moment and every simple issue is buried beneath 20 minute videos with unrelated titles
