After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Reposting with alt text. If you’re in Oakland and need some good caffeination, today would be a really good time to support a local business!
Media statement: Palestinian-owned cafe attacked the day before Oct. 7
Oakland, CA. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a friend of Palestinian cafe owner Abdulrahim Harara called to alert him that Jerusalem Coffee House was vandalized. The window on the cafe's Telegraph Avenue entrance was destroyed, shattering glass onto the sidewalk, the cafe interior and the plants. Harara suspects the vandalization was an attempt to intimidate him and his community that openly condemn the genocide of the Palestinian people.
The incident follows a year-long spate of harassment the cafe has endured including hate mail, digital smear campaigns and legal attacks. The Palestinian cafe is currently fighting discrimination lawsuits orchestrated by Zionist hate groups the Anti-Defamation League and the Brandeis Center. The U.S.
Department of Justice brought a third case to try to silence the cafe that is simply a regurgitation of the same false allegations of the other two.
Despite the vandalization and the lawsuits, Harara remains steadfast. As he expressed at the August 2025 press conference, he will not be intimidated by these attacks and false charges. He posted photos of the broken glass to Instagram writing, "All life and sustenance is from Allah. Alhamduillah we are straight, despite this hate crime, It was a blessed morning and we look forward to the work week and continuing our work despite the hate."

Last week, Vallejo school district's superintendent said the district is considering cutting 30% of its staff.

If that were to happen, over 350 would lose their jobs. My report for @vallejosun.bsky.social ...

In theory, the Berkeley Flea Market shut down permanently a week ago. Yesterday, I noticed that people were showing up to sell their wares anyway. I wrote a quick vibe report about it at @oaklandreviewofbooks.org .

Are you trying to get the current COVID vaccine in the Bay Area? Or have you already gotten it?

Would you tell me how your experience went for a story I'm writing?

Not required: but bonus points if you live in Richmond as this is a story for Richmondside.

This is the weirdest mailer I’ve gotten all year, which is saying a lot.

Just propaganda from oil company lobbyists that doesn’t actually urge action on any way.
