The bigotry from those who are convinced all Muslims are responsible for this. The disinformation on all sides that this would not have happened without Israel, when ISIS's psychopathy targets Jews regardless. The justifications or support from parts of the left.

Truly darkness everywhere.

A lot of people seem incapable of processing any tragedy that happens to Diaspora Jews without making it about Israel-Palestine. And that goes for both the ones saying, "This is where 'Globalize the Intifada' slogans inevitably lead!" AND the ones saying, "But Chabad is a pro-Israel organization!"
People on all sides of the issue seem determined to make the horrific antisemitic shooting at Bondi Beach about Palestine, even though the shooter was quite open about saying he was inspired by ISIS, an organization devoted to a transnational caliphate and so hostile to Palestinian nationalism.

My latest: Contrary to popular perception, American antisemitism is not primarily a partisan problem—it is a generational one. "The research collectively suggests that America is becoming more anti-Semitic because its young people are becoming more anti-Semitic." Gift link:

Steve isn’t here anymore, but he always posted this picture on Hanukkah so I thought we could carry on his tradition and remember him.
Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

It is such a low bar that we ought to be able to condemn the horrific antisemitic terror attack in Australia without either:
A. Implying that Israel somehow justifies or at least relativizes it, OR:
B. Implying we need to blame all Muslims and/or immigrants.

And yet...

What happened at Bondi is a tragedy and a crime. If there's one thing I hope for, it's that we don't fall into "now is not the time to talk about gun control" bullshit.

Now is EXACTLY the time to talk about gun control. We need to stop this from happening again. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
Australia’s gun lobby says it’s ‘winning’ the fight against firearm control as numbers surge
There are now more than 4m guns in the community – almost double the number recorded in the years after the Port Arthur massacre that prompted a national crackdown

Every year for Hanukkah I like to share panels from this special holiday comic I edited when I was on staff at Marvel. There remains a dearth of specifically Hanukkah stories in comics and this one only ever appeared in print once.

Every year I am proud to share and celebrate the light of Hanukkah:

I get this vibe of “why won’t the Jews stop whining when there are real problems in the world” from some of you — even some Jews — and I would offer that this is not the way

You guys it is possible for antisemitism to be a real and rising issue *and* for people to be racist/Islamophobic against Mamdani. It’s not an either/or. Please stop dismissing the very credible threat of antisemitism because some people who raise the issue suck.

Ok this is an absolutely brilliant idea.
Did you miss it this week?

I have a new job: president of News Creator Corps. Goes like this.

Via the people now called creators, audiences are migrating to the social layer in the internet stack. Maybe there's a way to move with, rather than against that.

In retrospect, the key observation of this Nov. 2023 thread ⬆️ was that what we might call “echo chambers of gore” had congealed, worldwide, w/in weeks.

The impact of so many people seeing, in vivid detail, *only* the violence of Oct. 7, or only that against Gazans, persists.

Every Shabbat and Jewish festival, we pray for a just and equal world without oppression or suffering. Our Jewish communal grief should not mean a choice between supporting us *or* Palestinians because we should not be conflated with the actions of a nation state.

It is wrong to blame an attack on a synagogue on Yom Kippur on Jewish support for Israel, and it is equally wrong to blame it on Muslim immigration to the UK. We can't give in to mutual hate. Be better, everyone.

On the right, they will be told to make aliyah immediately and that this is why the diaspora is never safe, and there will be efforts to use this to discredit all Palestine activists. On the left, there will be people saying they deserve this for not distancing themselves further from Israel.

If your response to a fatal attack on a synagogue outside of Israel-Palestine on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar is to make it entirely about Israel-Palestine, in either direction, consider that you are part of the problem.

I simply do not see how you can understand the clear and obvious truth that all Palestinians are NOT Hamas while at the same time believing that all Jews are Israel.

I need y’all to look at that contradiction and at yourselves.
