I would argue that the last thing which is needed now is Western, or any other country 's interference in how Syrians create a system of governance which works for them. What Western nations do need to do though is ensure that they continue to provide asylum for those seeking it. 7/

Yes person on the internet Syrians are aware that everything isn’t perfect and that there are challenges ahead. I think they didn’t need you to tell them that given that it’s been 5 decades of tyranny and no country ever emerged from tyranny without challenges ahead.

This is a good step forward - too many have been made homeless by previous gov policy (remember the 7 days' notice anyone?) and still suffer the consequences.

I feel like, with 1m+ new users a day, verification is going to be an issue on here. Not everyone has their own website/domain they can use, and it's still very easy to pretend to be someone else as people aren't used to checking handles. Or am I missing something?

I only have limited empirical evidence too, but in my experience shifting the focus from number of followers to engagements is a helpful way to understand how effective your messaging is. Getting lots of positive engagement on here at the moment despite the tiny numbers 🫡

As someone who works in comms, I tend to have a slightly different interest in watching the shift from Twitter to Bluesky than other people. One particularly interesting aspect is the focus on followers over engagement which some people seem to have. 1/
