The only real failure is abandoning your principles. Killing what you love because you can’t bear to part from it is selfish and stupid. If your reputation can’t absorb a few blows, it wasn’t worth anything in the first place.

The reason Meta platforms have become so unusable is bc they've trained users to treat social media like one big customer service complaint hotline. FB is not where you go to broaden your POV; it's where you go to bitch at clothing brands and restaurant chains.
Maddow plugging Bluesky is, on a metric level, good for the platform, but it also means it is clearly filling up with people who have never used this kind of app before. They're used to Meta platforms, which is why they reply angrily to everything they see and add nothing. Human spam essentially.
Maddow: If you don't have Bluesky yet, I recommend it. It is a social media network that doesn't make me want to stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork

I've worked with so many 'eye servants' in my life. I wish I knew the proper word long ago. I've always just called them assholes
Word of the day, though I’m sure no one will need it, is ‘eye servant’ (16th century): an individual who only pays attention or works hard when the boss is looking.

The guy spend a chunk of his childhood in an internment camp because our government thought he might be dangerous because he was of Japanese descent. He was also gay when you were forced to hide it. It’s been much worse for a lot of people in our history. George knows what he’s talking about.
