I'd really love to see a writing guide (and industry advice) written from a minority and marginalised perspective tbh. I imagine it would look wildly different. And be helpful to a lot of folks out there who tend to get regurgitated guidance based entirely on an unequal and exclusionary experience.
Not to besmirch the reputation of elf porn, I am sure that both the writers and the readers of it are fine people with talent and discerning taste. I just... no.
I keep getting this facebook ad that says "YOU SHOULD WRITE ROMANTASY" in huge letters and all it makes me want is to stay even farther from the land of elf porn than I already am
"Cast it into the fire! Destroy it!"

"NO"
Hot take: The One Ring needs to be banned and WotC will never, ever do it no matter how much you beg, threaten, or reason with them #MTG

Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering are the polar opposites of the tabletop gamer universe, and I find it very interesting that they are seen as very similar activities and tend to attract similar sorts of people. A collaborative storytelling exercise with a light dusting of rules where […]

If you are considering putting together an anthology or starting a lit mag, I would like to make one thing perfectly clear: good writers do not want to be associated with a publication that puts AI slop on the cover. You will get sub-par authors at best if you continue down this road
Plagiarism and obvious slop is unacceptable within the covers of your publication, but good enough to be what represents you and your writers to the world? I don't understand what the logic might be beyond "cover art is expensive and I don't give a shit about my reputation"
It's startling to me the number of anthology and journal editors I've encountered who are like "ABSOLUTELY NO AI-WRITTEN MATERIAL" in their guidelines and then openly use AI images for their covers. Granted that number at this point is two, but the fact that it happened more than once is concerning
I'm sorry, the algorithm made me do it

Picture this exact scenario, but it started happening a decade ago and now every agency you work with won't shut up about you taking more time for less pay to correct their magic machine's mistakes and you'll have just the slightest idea what your games' localizers have put up with this whole time.

Domain name registration strikes me as the kind of thing that could be provided for free with modest government support. Am I being a technologically illiterate dirtbag leftist? (Note: I am aware that DNS registration for country codes is a very large source of revenue for some countries. Assume […]

My goal for my newsletter is to have people tell their friends and social media contacts, "hey you should check out this newsletter, it's really cool". Is that overenthusiastic?

Conservatives: Soviet central planning created massive amounts of ugly, poor-quality housing! Unlike our perfect capitalist system of building mainly luxury condos and wasteful McMansions while leaving low-cost housing to exploitative slumlords who allow it to decay from lack of maintenance to […]

What is currently being called "AI" is never going to lead to AGI, it's impossible. But even if it were possible, keeping even one such AGI online would be unsustainable with current technology. Our planet literally cannot support them

I think it's kind of hilarious that in Canada we can't have No Kings rallies because it would be disrespectful to Charlie the alt-med lunatic. "No Tyrants!" Aristocracy is inherently tyranny. It doesn't matter if the king is a pathetic figurehead, we're still pretending he's better than everyone […]

You pin 100% of the blame for your party repeatedly failing to curtail the rise of fascism on lack of support from the left, and then you pull shit like this. You're like a cat who looks at itself in the mirror and sees another cat and tries to fight it, you have no self-consciousness whatsoever
It is funny as fuck the way the "Blue no matter who" people are dancing around trying to gin up excuses for Nazi Tattoo Guy. Like, you do realize this is the exact same shit the MAGAs do to justify the filth they vote for. If "has a giant Nazi tattoo" isn't a dealbreaker for you then ionno
It's the symbolism. He is literally demolishing part of your civic architecture to build a giant monument to himself. I don't especially care about the White House (we already burned the first one and we're ready for a rematch any time), but it's pretty damn on the nose.

I keep seeing friends who aren't thrilled that Word is newly enshittified. At the risk of sounding like one of Those Guys, there is a magnificent, full featured, entirely free alternative called Libre Office that works on all platforms. I've used it exclusively for over a decade.

The only reason conservatives can smugly call unions useless and unnecessary is because they are resting on the shoulders of generations of workers who unionized and demanded labour laws and batter working conditions. This is the societal equivalent of the spendthrift aristocrat gambling away […]
