It sure would be weird if my old band, the Minor Thirds, had spent the last few months recording our first full album of new songs in 18 years, and it was going to drop tomorrow, on my birthday.

Heh, yeah, that would be weird.

Vladimir and Estragon's various aches and pains hit differently now than they did when I first read Waiting for Godot when I was a teenager.
New! @wordgarbler.bsky.social revisits an old favourite with Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, and @sakbari.bsky.social is excited about Leanne Betasamosake Simpson’s new book Theory of Water: Nishnaabe Maps to the Times Ahead.

A great guide, and I think a lot of non-poets would also love these ideas, especially a small press subscription! I currently have one from World Poetry and it’s amazing!

Happy Turkey Day! On Thanksgiving Day in 1988, the first episode of #MST3K aired — and now, 185 episodes into our podcast, we're ready to talk about it!

We discuss K01, Invaders from the Deep, and the Supermarionation show Stingray that this "movie" comes from, over at itsjustashow.com/episode/185

RIP, Tina Darragh. Somehow I never met her! But her chapbook "on the corner to off the corner" was huge for me, and I need to catch up on the work she did more recently.

Ah, turns out that viral post with no citations was wrong.
Update: Google has now made a statement that aligns with what I found reported: you have not been automatically opted-in to letting its AI read your emails as those viral posts claimed

(please do not use this as a reason to reply with everything else you hate about google)

This reminded me of how fiercely protective and loyal I am to the 7 train, despite the 25 years that have passed since I moved out of NYC.
The original ESPN story about his 1999 comments remains online, and pleasingly still in its original formatting.

I'm nostalgic for the time when this kind of thing got you suspended.

We put it off for many years, but we are finally talking about Pride and Prejudice.

And I used the opportunity to say why Northanger Abbey has always had a special place in my heart — and to make room in there for a secret third book, which I finally read, and enjoyed way more than I expected!
With her 250th birthday just around the corner, we revisit two of Jane Austen's novels: Pride and Prejudice (at last!) and Northanger Abbey.

Yes, we also talk about Colin Firth. It's a fun episode!

I also briefly mention (finally!) reading @daviddemchuk.com's terrific horror novel Red X. And there are some interesting connections that I could have made between Red X and Wuthering Heights, but it would have been kind of spoilery...
New! @wordgarbler.bsky.social finally reads Wuthering Heights, and @sakbari.bsky.social revisits Laurie Colwin's essay collection Home Cooking. And we admit to a few canonical books that we didn't get on with.

The editing of this episode was absolutely crawling with gremlins, so I hope none snuck in at the last minute!
In our latest episode we revisit MST3K 507, I Accuse My Parents — and the episode of The Mads Are Back where they tackle it, and the chapter of Frank's book (now out in audiobook!) where he talks about it. All of which are very good.

Ned’s thoughts on music are always worth reading, but especially when he’s saying nice things about my band’s new album!

(But his bit about Canary Records is also true. They’re great.)
It's #BandcampFriday and so there's much going on as per. Had a few recommendations and thoughts, including on #Hydroplane, #TheMinorThirds, #LadyWray, #MasmaDreamWorld, the #CanaryRecords label and more besides. Also that @sparksofficial.bsky.social band, think I've heard of them. #music

This line (or a version of it) was announced in 2007, right before I moved to Toronto for grad school. "Well, this would be great," I thought, moving into my first Toronto home just off Eglinton, "but it will only be done when I finish my PhD."

Reader, I never did finish that PhD.
