Litter picking session with @wolct.bsky.social this morning on the stretch of the Water of Leith in Balerno, part of the @walkwheelcyclet.bsky.social National Cycle Network route 75. One bag plus 1 boxing glove 🥊🤔

With wet leaves matted to the walkway, there was plenty of sweeping in store for this morning's wonderful volunteers, in Balerno. There was also some invasive cotoneaster to be cut back, and as always, enough litter to keep us busy. The rain even held off too! Greatly appreciated as always folks! 🍂🧹

Thanks to our fantastic weekend volunteers, the walkway from Baberton Loan up to Blinkbonny bridge is looking fab! The path has been raked and swept, with steps and encroaching veg dealt with along the way, and a hearty tea break in the crisp winter sun. Great work folks!🌞☕️🍪

Nothing lasts forever and after many hours of hard usage, its time for new brushes for the walkway.

Big thanks to CMS Law who funded many new tools to support our work through their social impact fund.

Our volunteers will be overjoyed

We had our final Team Nature Nordic and All Ability Wellbeing Walks session. We had a lovely walk up the Water of Leith towards Dean Village, spotted Herons, heard Dippers and learned about the historical Baxter family grain milling, which was prominent in the 17th century.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Sometimes karma does pay off !

As our staff were setting up ready for our volunteer session this morning..

They came across the Golden sim courtesy of Tesco mobile which means £150 to invest in more biscuits for tasks.

We love the outdoors in winter and deliver school field studies all year round, but we take the weather and river levels seriously. Life jackets and chest waders keep geographers safe and warm feet and hands help pupils stay focused for longer.

A big improvement made on the paths between Dean Village and Belford by the volunteers this morning.

Lots of wet, soggy and compacted leaves removed to help provide a usable surface for locals and visitors to the river.

Another volunteer session ahead looking after the walkway, continuing our work at Dean Village to Belford

A power of work done this morning by the volunteers, between Redbraes and Bonnington on the walkway.

Tons of soggy leaves removed to improve the surface for users. Whilst a good search of the local area to keep it litter free.

Some serious power in the water this morning at Redbraes.

Will it be as powerful as the strength of the volunteers coming out to sweep the walkway of leaves and rubbish??

The Coalie Collective volunteer group were hard at work at Coalie Park, removing the barriers and sprucing up the Skate area, as it is now OPEN.

Looking great in the sunshine

A frosty cycle patrol up the walkway from the visitor centre for Johnny, on the search for future projects for our volunteers.

A few leaf sweeping moments along the way to make some minor improvements.

Where art meets geography. So pupils can mark the exact spot for their channel cross section, we’ve painted bright coloured stones. This really helps with accuracy when they use the same location for the wetted perimeter. And they’re very pretty, we think!
