If the Supreme Court isn't the final word, doesn't reduce the value of their opinions as precedent? If they haven't finally resolved the issue, isn't that permission for lower courts to seek their own (also non-final) resolutions to issues?

This is insane. I feel like I’m going insane when I’m watching this. Not just the fact that it’s clearly their fault, but the way a heavily-armed squad of masked thugs immediately jumps into the street and brutalizes the woman they just hit, despite having no idea who she is.

ICE GOONS crash into car and then point weapons to kidnap man.

That’s it! The Nobel prize folks can make Trump leave them alone by making up a special prize just for him! Call it the Nobel Prize for Greatness and make the Gold Medal twice as large as everyone else’s. Include a nice gold plated presentation case for him to hang on his wall. That’s all he wants.

If only there were a Nobel prize for narcissism ….

Trump: "The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me, and said 'I'm accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it.' A really nice thing to do. I didn't say 'Then give it to me, though.'"

Fuck, they’re shutting down the MMWR! It’s like these people worship ignorance. They’re making us blind to emerging disease threats. These are stupid people and they’re going to get a lot of us killed.

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

I first heard of Kathryn Johnston almost 20-years ago when the news broke that cops had shot and killed her in what at first seemed like an ill-advised drug raid. We eventually learned it was much worse than that. Radley tells the story well.

Tired of being angry about Trump? Want to be angry about something completely different? Then check out the 1st episode of @radleybalko.bsky.social's new podcast, Collateral Damage, which tells the story of how some drug cops killed 92-year old Kathryn Johnston. theintercept.com/2025/10/08/c...

The Atlanta narcotics unit’s deadly raid on 92-year-old Kathryn Johnston.

I love this so much. Trump needs them to be scary “Antifa” thugs, so they give him colorfully absurd animals. And as a bonus, the costumes offer some protection against less-lethal weapons like beanbags and Tasers.

Thank you very much for reporting the argument. From it, I think I now see why Gov. Pritzker has been so eager to deploy the State Police to protect ICE facilities: It goes against the argument that the National Guard is needed because ICE is prevented from enforcing the law.

This seems like Trump is delusional, but it’s worse than that. Delusional people believe what they’re saying. Trump doesn’t have beliefs. He only has things he says. Because it would be good for him if other people believed those things. He has no use for sincere beliefs. And no use for the truth.

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

I’ve been floating around in the libertarian-o-sphere since the turn of the century, and I don’t know anything about these guys beyond maybe having heard their names.

Nice composition. All those angles and lines and heavy dark areas, disrupted in the middle by a curved, twisting figure.

VMS also had a scripting language called DCL. It didn't have the pipe-everything-together capabilities of Unix, but you could do a lot with it. E.g. the system tuning calculator (AUTOCONFIGURE?) was written in it. And the PowerShell architects claim DCL as an influence.

Yeah, VAX was the hardware, VMS was the OS. First computer I ever programmed. VMS came with two shelves worth of orange manuals documenting the commands, admin, tuning, system functions, and library routines. And if you really wanted to know, you could read the source code on microfiche.

I’m probably not smarter than you, but I’ve heard that kind of aid work is very difficult. Apparently, the people on the front lines had a lot of local knowledge, and they have been dispersed to the winds. It takes time to build that up again. I don’t know who is trying.

ICE are not anyone’s “fellow officers.” They don’t patrol our neighborhoods at night. They don’t investigate murders and robberies and burglaries. They are not crime fighters. And there’s a reason they don’t have a 911 line: They are not the people you call when you need help. They are not police.

I have my disagreements with some of Pritzker's policy choices, but I like his willingness to call out Trump's authoritarianism. We need more leadership like that.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

In high school I would have told Ethan on the first day not to worry because I’d take care of it. And he’d be grateful because he didn’t realize that meant I thought he couldn’t do it. In high school, Ethan was easy to spot.

It blows my mind that people on this thread are slamming Weiss for saying “human beings—not cultures—are created equal.” I realize they are placing it in a different context than I do, but it still sounds like a sensible declaration of the primacy of the individual to me.

There’s a lot in Bari Weiss’ 2023 FedSoc speech that merits scrutiny but I think the Times did a disservice by closing with this quote — given what she says immediately after. fedsoc.org/commentary/f...

Man, it must take some crazy stupid level of homophobia to make someone tear up pavement with heavy equipment just because it has rainbow colors.
The image shows a tweet from Secretary Sean Duffy, who posted a clapping hands emoji in response to another tweet. The quoted tweet from the account “End Wokeness” includes a short video still of construction machinery tearing up a crosswalk painted in rainbow colors. The caption of that tweet says, “LGBTQ crosswalk in Miami Beach torn up by Florida DOT.” The image shows the machine lifting and breaking apart rainbow-painted bricks while construction workers and orange safety barriers are visible in the background.

Unlike ICE, Chicago cops regularly arrest actual murderous gang members. Prosecutors prosecute them, and judges send them to jail. And they do it under their own names with their faces showing. ICE has no justification for hiding their identities while snapping up undocumented landscape workers.

Also, “rammed by 10 cars”? I think they mean they got into a multi-car accident. Or maybe even caused one.
