They’re going to give him exactly the same deal we already have, aren’t they? Then he’s going to claim victory and strut around while adding it to his list of accomplishments.
Trump: "Based upon a very productive meeting I had with Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one... Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs"

Every Stephen Miller tantrum and DHS recruitment ad speaks in these existential terms about "defending your culture" to elide the fact that they need people with the courage to wear a mask while interrogating a sixth grader

I think if you want to defund ICE, this is the most likely path to actually getting a law passed, because it pits law-and-order supporters against ICE. Not my ideal solution, but it would stop some of the insanity.
Public safety means stopping violent crime — not weaponizing ICE against our communities.

That’s why I'm proposing a bill that redirects nearly $75 billion from ICE to local law enforcement.

I assume this sort of hype talk works when you’re talking about a hotel or rental properties, but it’s insane to think you can “talk up” the United States this way.
Trump on his message in Davos: "The primary message is how well the United States is doing. And I say it all the time -- a year and half ago we were a dead country, and now we have the hottest country in the world"

Somebody remind me, was abject impoverishment part of Project 2025?
Brooke Rollins: "We've run over 1,000 simulations. It can cost around $3 a meal for a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, corn tortilla, and one other thing. So there is a way to do this that actually will save the average American consumer money."

WTF?!? They’re integrating fuckin’ MECHAHITLER into our military networks?!?
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the integration of Elon Musk's xAI platform, Grok, into military networks as part of a new "AI acceleration strategy" during a visit to SpaceX.

People aren’t yelling at law enforcement, they’re yelling at ICE.

ICE won’t investigate a burglary, or respond to an armed robbery, or park behind you when you’re changing your tire on the side of the highway. Nobody calls ICE for help. ICE does not deserve the esteem given to police.
Rep. Roger Williams: "People need to quit demonstrating, quit yelling at law enforcement, challenging law enforcement, and begin to get civil."

Pretty sure that almost every state has problems with Medicaid fraud.

Nope…..not caused by Somalians.

Caused by rich & greedy companies taking Advantage of the poor, sick & elderly & lying about services that were NOT provided
Among other things, Minnesota has had problems with Medicaid fraud for years. (E.g. this news story from 2015: www.mprnews.org/story/2015/0...) Trump and MAGA only care about it now because they get to do some bigotry.

What will Trump do?
(A) Take credit,
(B) Get angry at Antifa-style protesters for opposing their government,
(C) Bomb Iran, thus uniting both sides against U.S., or
(D) Two of the above, somehow.
THREAD: Verified videos of anti-establishment protests currently unfolding in Iran

Protesters push back police and security forces on Tehran's Jomhouri Street.

Is there an opposite of this book? Someplace I could find a well-informed and balanced account of what happened during the first few years of the pandemic? What we know? What went right? What went wrong? What do we still need to figure out?
“they are lying to your face about something you remember” is a perfect summary of this book as sharply offered by @michaelhobbes.bsky.social on @ifbookspod.bsky.social

I am not an anarchist, and I definitely think ICE should be abolished. Worthless organization whose only function is doing evil to my neighbors.
You don't need to be an anarchist to think that ICE should be abolished

You can be a good governance liberal who thinks that the agency has demonstrated an institutional disrespect for the Constitution, and therefore advocate for unwinding the agency and rolling its functions into a revived INS.
ICE have revealed themselves to be nothing more than the partisan militia of MAGA. When Trump became president, he did not "execute Order 66." They have been yearning for the Day of the Rope since their founding, and all Trump did was give free rein to their basest impulses.

While psychopathy is the norm in politicians, it has rarely been so nakedly obvious as in Trump. Other presidents could intellectualize the goodness of things like trust, but Trump is so defective he lacks even the ability to assume the virtues he has not.

One of the easiest fights to win is to stab a friend in the back. And Trump will do it every time. He doesn’t understand the benefits of trust or friendship or of having allies.
Denmark lost more troops per capita in the post 9/11 war on Afghanistan. Saying they “are not a good ally” because they won’t surrender their territories to the US is lunacy. We are betraying our allies to satisfy the whims of a would-be Emperor for whom the US is not enough.
They’re again advocating against Denmark when it comes to Greenland
