Great captures of this Merlin Steve!
What a sight to see and capture!
After recently capturing this pair of gannets with their egg, I was concerned about their success and survival. This paper gives me hope that they’ve all made it! 😊

It’s always difficult, I think, to do a post out of the blue where you just come straight out and say “BUY MY BOOK HERE LOOK HERE IT IS” without any preamble, but sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and do it.

Tl;dr: BUY MY BOOK HERE LOOK HERE IT IS

What a capture…so beautiful! 😍 #Birds
Cedar Waxwings are named after the little waxy red tips, called astaxanthin, on their secondary feathers.
This Cedar Waxwing was pulling off some fancy aerial manoeuvres while hunting bugs, and showed off these tiny red tips!
The astaxanthin are now thought to be involved with social status.
Thanks John, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge. 😊
Wow that’s very interesting thank you. These ones were all closed, mostly brown but also some green beside them, so I’m not sure which of the two it was going for as I only questioned it when I got home and looked at the photos.
Hi John, it was Scots pine.
Elegance and beauty! #SuperSeabirdSunday #BirdingScotland

(Cropped photo from a telescopic lens)
Bittersweet moment, great shot though!
Thanks Steve, the chunky bill and the fact this one was flying solo is what made me question it.
Hey fellow 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 birders can you help?

Common or Scottish Crossbill? Spotted in the pine woods of Glen Tanar Estate today.

New research from Pesticide Action Network reveals the extent of pesticide use by UK councils. These are poisons being sprayed in your street, your local park. Pls share.

I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend Bird Therapy by Joe Harkness and A Complete Guide to British Birds by Brett Westwood and Stephen Moss, both available on audible.
What an adorable little ball of fluff! 🥰Great capture Ralph!

Some devastating news today.

Earlier this year the First Minister @johnswinney.bsky.social said "nature should be at the heart of climate action". This decision flies in the face of that.
A dark day for Scotland’s seabirds.

We're incredibly concerned that Scottish Government have granted consent for the Berwick Bank offshore windfarm, which could catapult some of our most vulnerable species toward extinction 🚨

We will carefully scrutinise the details and consider our next steps.

We are extremely concerned to hear that consent has been given to Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Farm, which will be one of the world's largest such developments, sited in an internationally important area for seabirds.
