Something Wicked This Way Comes.

This is another one of my gothic horror inspired pieces. I did this particular one after a viewing of Stephen King’s The Mist and a trip to the Booth Museum of Natural History in Brighton.

20 years ago I was given this as a birthday present. To this day I still have no idea what exactly it is.
To be effective, an assassin must be invisible as well as deadly, hiding behind the most innocent disguise. A bowl of beef ramen metamorphoses into a fearsome ninja; an apparently harmless can of tea becomes a sword-wielding samurai of death.

With Lunchbots, each meal may be your last…!!!
Definitely a massive me-treat!! Woke this morning to find a new Gary Numan track has been released. It’s a rare outtake from the Telekon album. Thought I was going to have to wait for the forthcoming reissue to hear it. Love stuff like this. Great track too.

Hope you don’t mind the reply, Harsha. Just wondered if you’d seen Westbourne magazine this month? I went to 2 of the public consultation meetings & signed the petition. Sadly the surgery was allegedly sold off way back in 2024 to a company owned by 2 doctors at Emsworth. I’m totally dumbfounded.
Crikey!! I used to have this on VHS back in the day. Picked it up at a car boot sale out of curiosity many years back. Seem to recall it’s a real oddity. Thanks for the video link. This is the first time I’ve actually ever seen it referenced anywhere else.
Watched ‘She Killed in Ecstasy’ by Jess Franco last night and have become more than a little obsessed by the house in the opening scene. Love the fact it still exists today too and remains untouched.
Late night movie watch…

Fresh Crisp Apples:
Vincent Price!

(Not quite the opening scene I was expecting!!)
It was amazing, Pete. You would have loved it. I still actually have one of the postcards I picked up from the gift shop at the time. The exhibition was in the Pompidou Centre probably about 1986/87ish.

Well I know what it is (for me anyway), it's "strong lines on creamy background". See also Giacometti's paintings, which caused my head to explode when I first came across some in an encyclopedia of art as a teen back in caveman times
Love Giacometti!! Always remember going to see an exhibition of his paintings and sculptures during my art college days. They were amazing. This was also, of course, during those self same ‘caveman’ times!!

New! Cassetteboy vs Keir Starmer.

This took absolutely ages, so if you'd like to buy us a coffee at ko-fi.com/cassetteboy we'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Thanks for this, Paula. Interesting to see an earlier incarnation of the game. It was 2015 when I played. Crazy to have created it in survival mode. That must have been really difficult for her. To my shame I’ve only ever used creative mode. Keep meaning to give the proper game a go at some point.
Sounds awesome, Paula. Does she still have a visual of it? That creative mode is so addictive. I don’t think I played any other game while mucking about with that.
Suddenly reminded this morning of that time 10 years ago when I spent a whole year dicking around in the creative mode in Minecraft!! The ‘’Welchcraft’ block even had its own front door, candles, a toilet & permanent portal to the Nether!! And people say I don’t know how to party.

“I mean, your society’s broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No let’s blame the people with no power & no money & these immigrants who don’t even have the vote, yeah it must be their fucking fault.”

Iain Banks: the final interview
Iain Banks died last Sunday, just before the publication of his final novel The Quarry. Last month he talked to Stuart Kelly about writing, politics and all the things still left to do . . .

RIP Robert Redford.

Did this illustration back in 2010 for a local cinema event.

Robert left us with so many great movies. For me it’s Three Days of the Condor, All The Presidents Men, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid plus I also have real soft spot for Sneakers (which no one seems to remember!!)
Still marvelling over this recent find in a local bookshop. A huge collection of old sci-fi paperbacks all with stickers from 2 of my favourite London comic shops of the past. So great to see stickers for Forbidden Planet (Denmark Street) & Dark They Were and Golden Eyed out in the wild once more.
This is a rather nice find. Searching through one of my Whole Earth Catalogues is an original advert for the 1st edition paperback version of Frank Herbert’s book, Dune. I wonder if I send off the $1.25 they’ll still honour the order? Worth a bit more than that these days methinks. 😂

That is how we would fix the housing crisis.

Hey Government, there are so many voices you are deaf to
Skegness, one of your absolute finest people right here. Buy her a drink whenever you see her.
Just verifying my age.

The Bejam badge should be worthy of age verification alone!! Now where are those ice pops?
It was very tempting, Paul. If it’s still there next time I go back I might have to.
