The website for enjoying Scotland’s Great Outdoors, on foot. Views are not ours - they belong to everyone.

We recently passed 2,200 of walking route descriptions on Walkhighlands (we really are supposed to be updating/improving routes and not adding more!!). But did you know that you can also post your own reports from walks on the site too - regardless of whether you followed our routes or not?

Very sorry to hear that Dave Hewitt died earlier this week, the man behind The Angry Corrie hillwalkers fanzine and a great account of walking the Scottish watershed, a nice bit of writing which you can read (and other of his work) here web.archive.org/web/20060923...

Well done to all those who recognised the last photo as being taken on Raasay, from the track to Hallaig looking back towards Skye's Red Hills.

I think walking along this grassy track gives one of the loveliest views in Scotland. Do you recognise it? Do you have a favourite easy track for walking along and gazing into the distance?

Anyone need a hug?

Beautiful conditions this morning on one of our favourite walks (and a check that the old Badenoch Way section which is getting overgrown is still passable!)

🏔️ ❄️ Stunning ramble up Ben Rinnes today!
🧊 🪓 To be honest I was just looking for an excuse to break out the ice axe for the season! Scored a “Brocken Spectre” in the distance at the top (second snap)!

Still lots of snow lying today at the eastern end of Strathspey - but largely gone from low ground at the western end.

Out in #Berwickshire today - snow fell wet unfortunately and the roads were skating rinks. Kept to the fields when possible. Descent from this modest hill (Haliburton Hill) through the snow was rather fun. #Fatbike #Lammermuirs

Like many websites and internet services, we are being affected by the outages at @cloudflare.social today. Many apologies. As ever, our app will continue to work with any walks you have downloaded.

Heads up - it's been a long wait this year but don't be complacent - looks like proper winter conditions are finally arriving on the hills. Think about the kit you need and remember to check the MWIS Mountain Weather Information Service or @metoffice.gov.uk mountain forecasts.

Absolutely, Helen!

From 2015 to 2022, IPA funded 450 local projects worth £12.2 million, delivering approximately:

155 miles of path upgrades
80 bridges
1,000 signs
500 gates
500 seats

Pound-for-pound, that's *remarkably* impactful and popular investment!

One of Scotland's most popular wee hills, did you know Dumyat is pronounced 'DUMB-eye-at'?
An alternative to the usual shorter route from the Sherrifmuir road, we've just replaced our old Dumyat from Blairlogie route to make a fine circuit - live now.
