Very sorry to hear that Dave Hewitt died earlier this week, the man behind The Angry Corrie hillwalkers fanzine and a great account of walking the Scottish watershed, a nice bit of writing which you can read (and other of his work) here web.archive.org/web/20060923...

👀Looks like this government is scrapping the two child limit! This is good news for the thousands of children who will be lifted out of poverty and for the economy. Previous NEF analysis found this would reduce the economic cost of child poverty by £3.2bn a year.

It’s a wee thing but bumming about “Glasgow’s biggest ever group of socialist councillors” is just flat out wrong; 1992 for example saw 2 Militant Labour and 2 Ind Labour elected to the district council.

Blog update: The Shop Assistants spent a comparatively brief amount of time in the limelight, but "Safety Night" got to number one in the indie charts for 3 weeks in March 1986. Their last shot before they signed to a major, it feels like the doors of indiepop being kicked right open.
