It's a couple days late. I had the privilege of seeing El Grand Combo at Radio City Music Hall last year. It was such a amazing performance. Hearing of Rafael Ithier passing is such a sad thing may he rest in peace

Rafael Ithier founded Puerto Rico’s most acclaimed orchestra in 1962 and led it for more than 60 years just until his death this weekend.

Hardly anybody in Puerto Rico cared or even knew who Charlie Kirk was until he got killed www.npr.org/2025/12/07/n...
Rafael Ithier, a legend of salsa music, dies at 99
The pianist, composer and arranger spent more than six decades turning El Gran Combo into one of the premier salsa institutions of Latin America and beyond.

Puerto Rican statehooders hate Puerto Ricans.

Left: “Governor will decree one day of mourning over the death of [legendary bandleader] Rafael Ithier”

Right: “Jenniffer González laments the murder of Charlie Kirk and orders flags flown at half-mast [… from 9/10] until Sunday, 9/14”

That's a big no. Any Democrat who supports statehood for Puerto Rico should automatically be disqualified because that's a gross violation of international law which states Puerto Rico has the right of self-determination
My checklist for whether a Dem candidate for Congress or Senate is up for the fight is similar:
1) Supreme Court reform
2) Abolish the filibuster
3) Statehood for D.C. & Puerto Rico (to ameliorate the Senate)
4) Mandatory Independent Redistricting Commissions in every state for Congressional maps.

Just more prove the statehood's hate Puerto Rico

Today in history, 1978: Puerto Rico police murder pro-independence activists Carlos Soto Arriví, 18, and Arnaldo Darío Rosado, 24, at the top of Cerro Maravilla mountain. The crime and subsequent coverup became one of the most sensational events in Puerto Rico’s history. /1

It's not that they moderated it's that they put it on the back burner to focus on the standard of living issue. Status politics have always been tied to this standard of living. When a party delivers improvements in the standard of living their status gains popularity when they fail it loses
Alianza is a glimmer of what could be in the future. it’s ironic that the PIP moderated their independentismo and MVC their socialism when it appears that being stronger in their values may have been the better choice in the last election. then again the penepes and the populares are always

Neither will Puerto Rico. The current pro statehood governor of Puerto Rico has a 62% disapproval rating the rest of her party isn't far off. There's a fairly good chance that they will lose the next election to the independence party which is never won a gov race since it's founding in 1946

126 years ago, the U.S. invaded Puerto Rico — and called the island “overcrowded.”
The solution? Mass sterilization of Puerto Rican women.

By 1970, 33% of Puerto Rican women had been sterilized — many without consent, pressured through misinformation, and economic coercion.
La Operación: The Forgotten Atrocity—How U.S. Colonial Rule in Puerto Rico Led to Mass Sterilization of Women
A Historical Examination of Colonial Power, Reproductive Violence, and the Legacy of Coercive Public Health When the United States invaded Puerto Rico in 1898, it ignited a new colonial era marked by political domination, economic restructuring, and social engineering. Among the most devastating outcomes of this colonial relationship was the systematic sterilization of Puerto Rican women. By 1970, approximately one-third of all Puerto Rican women of reproductive age…

Keep in mind that if Trump decides to invade Venezuela in the coming days, then i will not mourn for any US soldier that dies in the invasion as they are simply invaders of our lands

Note that my island is being used as a launching pad for their illegal invasion so of course i am worried about this
