I had to read a lot of novels I didn't enjoy in high school, but in college I fell absolutely in love with 18th century British novels, perhaps partly because they were so much spicier and wilder than the stuff we read in high school.

Last class today for my Women and the Early English Novel course with the lifetime learners. It was a lot of fun but also bittersweet to revisit the subject I meant to study as a career academic. Hugs to my fellow refugees and escapees from the dungeons of the ivory tower.

It's too weird to go these days - leaving academia is still a deep grief, even though my uni was never a welcoming place to be. Teaching the lifetime learners as a volunteer isn't the same, although the students are great.
