I did not survive cancer to have to put up with this nonsense. Not a baseball fan, but my favorite movie is Field of Dreams. I cook because someone has to. I bake to show my love. Be curious, not judgmental. Hoya Saxa.

This article is from a few years ago, but we just got out the nativity it references, so I thought I’d share it on Bluesky. There are several sweet and unique traditions included.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I feel like this is an appropriate point to revisit these pearls of wisdom:
Twitter (maybe) post from Nina Turner @ninaturner from 2023:

"I don't do politics"
Well baby, politics is going to do you, regardless.

Followed by a post from
misteranthrope:

Voting 101: Nine people on a bus. Three vote to drive over a cliff. Two vote to go get ice cream. Four don't bother to vote. Everyone dies.
Like it or not, you're on the bus with everyone else.
Make your voice heard.

Followed by a post by flipocrite:

The Harm-Reduction approach means:
• It's not always about the ice cream
• The people abstaining for moral purity reasons ("I'd only vote for a VEGAN ice cream parlor!") are functionally equivalent to those abstaining because they are okay with either option
• The ice cream not being very good does NOT mean driving off the cliff is somehow better

When you demonize and mistreat the immigrant, the poor, the starving, and the marginalized, I'm not interested in hearing about your religious beliefs.

You've already shown me what they are by how you're demonizing and mistreating the immigrant, the poor, the starving, and the marginalized.

The end of due process for immigrants is the end of due process for citizens.

Few understand this.

Bringing back this oldie but goodie . . .
Text of post from lloydrang: I'm GenX. We grew up in an all-print world. We read really fast.
So, my Millennial and GenZ peeps, I beg you for the love of Bananarama, please just send me the article and not the TikTok of the dude talking about the article.
In Prince's funky name, amen.

My general belief is that Dems need to spend more time thinking about what they believe and less about what they think some imaginary swing voters want them to believe.

Political strategy will stem from an authentic set of beliefs.

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

It's so clear that there's a huge number of professionals in the US who carry with them traumatic memories of being excluded, laughed at, or looked down up on by the Smart Kids and who have basically made hostility to Smart Kids their entire personality, ideology, & worldview.

Should’ve done the same. UT Gov. admitted he voted for the orange menace in 2024, and then had the audacity to claim he’s trying to lower the temp of the rhetoric. A vote for that ticket WAS a vote for political violence. They TOLD US what they were going to do. He had to know what was coming.

The truly classy briber used to tap the bribee on the shoulder and say, “Excuse me, but I think you dropped this $50,000.” A simpler, more genteel time . . .

Done. Although this creep’s handle is not wrong. If you’re under 25, there is a distressingly high probability that Musk is, in fact, your dad.

Absolutely. I know nothing about being a secret agent, yet I know instinctively this must be closer to the truth than Bond, Hunt, or Bourne.

Everyone has a 1-2 season TV show they sorely miss and not enough people knew about that you are always praising the heavens about.

What's yours?

Sure seems like Big Pharma spent way way more energy, money and lobbying capital on fighting Dems on prescription drugs than doing anything about the Secretary of HHS casually, and without any real evidence, telling everyone their products kill kids and give them autism.

The best day of my life was when my baby was able to roll both ways. I still dutifully put them down on their back, but they flipped to their tummy almost before they hit the mattress, tucked their knees up under them, and I got a full night’s sleep for the first time in about five months.

The president is sending the military to control American cities and if you're a reporter who's framing that illegal power grab as "pushing the boundaries of constitutionality" or "acting boldly to fight crime" or whatever, please go find another line of work where you won't get us all killed.

Does this person think “lower middle class” means “lower six figure salary”? I grew up LMC, and on our rare visits to a non-fast food place, no one would ever have thought to act like this. Only after rising a bit through the economic ranks did I start to witness people behaving this way.

And it’s not just the international students not coming here. My husband and I are both Georgetown grads (and Pitt for grad/law). Our child applied to neither and will be starting undergrad in Ireland in a few weeks.
