A quick intro:
Vel, 30s, she/her

-Books (sci-fi, fantasy, queer, thriller)
-Art (I'm very out of practice, but trying to get back to it)
-Music (rock and a variety of other genres)
-Movies/TV series/anime (various/mood-based)
Genre. I don't actually do much bookshelf organization, but I wouldn't be able to stand books in a series being separated 😅
😂
Thank God it's finally out in paperback
All Demeter wants is to safely shuttle her passengers to their destination, but everything keeps going wrong.

@barbaratruelove.bsky.social's Of Monsters and Mainframes was such a fun time! Definitely one of my favorite reads so far this year.

Anyway, this is just a reminder that early humans were human. They took care of the sick and loved art & saturated fat.

Thinking that everything they did was a grim survival tactic?

That's usually us projecting our issues onto the past. Not what their own lives were actually about.
This entire thread is such a good read!
So they found a 125,000 yr old Neanderthal fat rendering plant & I have thoughts.

Knowing that they loved saturated fat SO MUCH that they industrialized to get as much of it as humanly possible?

Makes me feel seen, heard, supported, etc www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Neanderthals intensively processed a minimum of 172 large mammals for grease and marrow fat, 125,000 years ago.

The third act breakup
My once-a-year-ish dip into the romance genre.
I picked this one up because I'd heard it avoided a specific trope I'm not big on, and it ended up being the perfect June-July pride months read 🌈📚💙
Oh awesome! I feel like I rarely ever find fans of these!
What are your top 4 favorite anime?

Definitely have more than four I'd consider favs, so instead of listing the big-name ones, here are 3 shows and 1 movie that I feel like are lesser known/less popular.
Ok, I couldn't resist...

LMAO
(But also the misplaced apostrophe in the description 😭)
I just had a whole MySpace-era flashback 😂 (Love the outfit btw!)
This sci-fi horror novel is book 1 in a planned series, which I didn't realize when I first picked it up. Thankfully it wraps up a complete arc, even if some plot threads are left open for the sequel.
Gruesome murders lead to the discovery that a parasitic organism is spreading among the staff at an isolated Antarctic research station.

Agreed! This reminded me of a book I read with a popular title comp. Many reviewers were disappointed because they felt the book was A.) a rip-off of the title comp, or B.) wasn't enough like the comp.
Truly a disservice to what I thought was an interesting book on its own merits.
This looks adorable! I had to immediately go put a hold on it at my library.

I posted this last June but it applies to every month really. Happy Pride y’all - I know the world is filled with so much cruelty and hate right now so I hope everyone gets enjoy the love and happiness they deserve. 🌈
Haha literally right as it hit zero - nice!
TIL that it's possible to bruise your teeth...
I hope you enjoy it!
Mixed feelings on this one, tbh. It was marketed as mystery/thriller, but I didn't find it very thriller-y.
"I don't read a lot of contemporary," I say as I... read another contemporary.
How far would you go to protect your child? (Even if he might not be innocent?)

The idea of Godzilla Minus One blind boxes is so funny to me. 1/8 chance to get the Godzilla that gives you radiation poisoning
