I write queer-normative space fantasy.

My necromancy is based on string theory, and my plots are character driven with lots of found family, and a big middle finger to authoritarianism.

Everyone who complains about countries sending refugees to the US needs to grapple with our role in creating those refugees: funding paramilitary organizations in those countries, overturning democratic elections because the leader put in charge was too communist.
8yo: Daddy, I want macaroni for dinner , but I want Mommy and 6yo's secret recipe, which is adding–

6yo: NO! YOU CAN'T TELL HIM!!!

8yo: A secret. I'll make it.

Brain wants to write erotica today, so I'm finally writing again.

Friend said I've gotten braver at writing those sorts of scenes, which was lovely to hear. There aren't any planned in my currently publishing series, but later ones may have some plot relevant moments, and I want to do them justice.
6yo: This is my pet giraffe. His name is Chompy because he goes chomp when he eats.

Me: Do your friends know you fed a real giraffe?

6yo: Uh, no. I think they'd be way too overreactive and run around the class, so I didn't tell them. Not a lot of people have fed a giraffe, unlike me.

I did not. 😔 Cramps were bad today.

Got a nice shower though. And a pair of naps. And read a bunch.

Not what I wanted, but at least I managed something.
6yo: We played plinko at school and FIVE people got 5! Five plus five is TEN. And five equals five!

Me: How much is five 5s?

6yo: Umm... *adorable thinking faces* twenty five!

Me: You're right!

6yo: I just did MATH! With my BRAIN!

I have too many WIPS and I haven't published anything this year. I need to get something off my to do list.
Currently deciding which project to work on.

I should probably get back to editing book 3 so I can punish it.
Trying to motivate myself to boot up the laptop and write today.

Decided to have some chocolate from my stash.

Okay, okay, I will obey the chocolate.

A Dove chocolate wrapper, printed with the words "Get lost in the pages of your story."
Absolutely devoured this book. It has so many of my favorite things. And the imagery is lovely.

I have a definite *thing* for "powerful magical person with dark past who transforms into an eager creepy puppydog toward the first person who treats them with a crumb of kindness".

Read the first chapter of "The Traitor and the Wretch" today during lunch and I can't wait to finish work.

She already is!

Last night she only wanted help to read the word "curtain".

Also "theater" but I'm not counting it, because she knows the word theater, it just confused her since it was spelled the-ater because it was split across two lines due to the word wrap.
She IS.

I'm very excited she's decided she enjoys reading now. She didn't like it because it was challenging to read the kids of books she wanted to read so preferred if someone read to her, but she's been reading me one of 8yo's books at bedtime every night and doing great.
Yes!

Character development also includes their relationship developments with others. That's some of the best stuff.

I'm just saying, we could settle this with swords, instead of 30+ emails. 🤺

A WIP embroidery piece, with a sword and mace chzrm, spikes and letter beads.

The beads read "this email could have been a duel | fight me"

Make sure to properly bathe your werewolf partners
specially if they're out in the forest chasing criminals, finding lost folks or getting into tussles with other supernatural beings!

6yo: I love reading now, Mommy! I know all kinds of words and how to spell them, all because of reading! And the things I learn at school make it so much easier to read! I LOVE READING! LOOK AT ALL THESE WORDS!

She's telling me all about her book and why Hannah is a thunder dragon.

Names are so hard!

I keep notes on fun ones I run across, just in case they fit someone later. Then end up using them for Planets instead because my characters are picky.
I feel you, Martha. It's exhausting enough dealing with the living.
It's important to me. I did not have that privilege myself, so I try to give it to others.

Not all of them, though. From my polyam romance draft, for example. Poor Zeke.

But most of them.

“My parents are good people, Mills. They just weren’t good to me. But as much as I hate it, I can’t blame them. Maybe I’d have made the same choice. Sacrifice one child to save the others. And it’s not like I've ever needed anything since I signed up. Anything I could ever want, the government’s already covered. All I have to do is… this.”
The Lawrence family is all kind of traumatized-but-trying:

- Jake, precocious pre-teen
- Caroline, ferocious dead mother
- Shane, powerful guilt-ridden necromancer, programmed to do literally anything to complete his mission, which is currently raising Jake
- Feels, Shane's murdered spouse, healer
I try to write good parents.

I mean, most are still flawed parents. (Except Veris' mother, she can adopt me please, and feed me whatever she wants in her kitchen).

But genuinely trying ones.

And then there's Selkirk. Her reasons are solid, she's just... A Selkirk. It's complicated.
