I don't know about that, but I will say that great wealth is like the One Ring: Often the person with it thinks they are wielding it, but ultimately it wields them, and for its own ends, not theirs. It takes a strong person to resist its temptations, and that sort of person is not likely to seek it.
wealth is a mental illness
There's a point, well below a billion dollars, where the amount of money you have lets you rid yourself of anyone who can be a check on your worst impulses, and replace them with people who tell you those worst impulses are somehow valorous. Rare is the billionaire with someone to tell them "no."

Hey folks!

Due to a series of unforeseen expenses, I need to raise some cash before royalty season rolls around at the beginning of April. Because of that, I am going to do something I don't usually do and offer paid mentoring sessions for aspiring writers.

I’m honoured to have a chapter in this volume on visualization, both on Tolkien’s visualizations as he composed his stories and on ways that viewers can imaginatively engage with his invented worlds through illustrations. I can’t wait to read the whole book!

something beloved about an old as fuck fandom that nothing new has is that any time you are curious about something related to it there is inevitably a forum or niche website dedicated specifically to what you’re looking for that was built when you were in kindergarten and is still updated regularly

now hold on just one minute. when I signed on to work for a creepy right-wing surveillance company named after seeing stones used by the dark lord Sauron to manipulate and control others in an attempt to enslave the free people of middle earth I had no idea we might do some evil.
More: “I’ve read stories of folks rounded up who were seeking asylum with no order to leave the country, no criminal record, and consistently check in with authorities. Literally no reason to be rounded up. Surely we aren’t helping do that?”

All are true! I was doing some research on one of the first Tolkien related fanzines and a few hints and cross references exposed me to a newszine titled Skyrack, whose editor liked Tolkien and reported some news tidbits in various issues. 1/🧵
