The sketch under the calendar grid for the month is "Éowyn and Faramir on the City Wall" by Christine Lowentrout, also from the 1985 Beyond Bree calendar.

It's time to show the February art from the 2026 Beyond Bree calendar! The main piece is titled "Boromir Ndangen" ("Boromir Slain"), by Patrick Wynne - from the first BB calendar in 1985. Pat is well known in Tolkien circles as one of the editors of Parma Eldalamberon. Order at beyondbree.org

Reminds me of the BnF library in Paris having custom patron cards (furthest on right) during the Tolkien exhibition 😁

And the answer is.....

All are true! I was doing some research on one of the first Tolkien related fanzines and a few hints and cross references exposed me to a newszine titled Skyrack, whose editor liked Tolkien and reported some news tidbits in various issues. 1/🧵

Those three were part of a set made especially for the Bodleian Maker of Middle-earth exhibition!

Sorry for the glare, my set is still in plastic.

Video proving the app (when not logged in at all!) is actively listening on the mic and sending significant traffic on the network

Hey @discord.com why is the iPhone app actively listening on my microphone whenever the app is open? I am not on any voice channels. As soon as I background the app it stops using the mic. Voice is set to “push to talk” only

Another fun beanbag!

Also a minor mobile layout issue - the ** are off the screen by default (had to zoom out to find them)

I agree! Also appears that Aragorn has an opinion, now that I look closely at his finger 😉

Each month of the Beyond Bree calendar also features a secondary piece along with the grid. January 2026 features "Thief!" by George Dunn, previously appearing in the 1994 calendar and the July 2001 issue of Beyond Bree.

The art for January 2026 is "Before the rising of the sun Eärendil slew Ancalagon the Black", by Nancy Martsch. Nancy started the Beyond Bree newsletter in 1981, and has been publishing it monthly since then without fail. This piece previously appeared in the 2020 and 1988 calendars.

If you don’t search for something explicitly, or subscribe to a channel, you aren’t shown anything at all. No recommendations etc. this is my YouTube home screen for example.

Put together this puzzle from @serenamalyon.bsky.social art “The Elven City” this weekend. Really challenging but a lot of fun!
