For the evening crowd, I wrote about the lack of queer identity in Metaphor and how that undercuts the message it’s trying to impart on the player. Even if they’ve been mid to terrible at representation lately, that element is a big part of what makes ATLUS’ biggest games so beloved.

An update on Uppercut's future:

Hey folks,

As we get further into November I just want to be transparent about our plans for the coming months. Once this month ends, we will no longer be accepting pitches for the foreseeable future. This includes our annual letter series, which unfortunately won’t be happening this year.

As much as I care about this work and want to continue it, the fact of the matter is I’m pretty much completely burnt out, disillusioned, and way understaffed and underfunded. I need to walk away for the time being for my own sake.

The site is going to stay up, nothing will be deleted or lost. But no new commissioned work after November will be happening for a while. I may post occasionally as I feel inclined, but that will be the extent. Indie Mixtape will continue, and hopefully find a home somewhere else. The Patreon will be shutting down.

Thank you to everyone who supported me/us over the years. It has meant a ton to us and helped us to make at least a small impact during our time in op
