I wish it didn’t feel so unusual and inspiring to see a leader treating everyone like they matter and saying that we have a responsibility to help each other
Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

I hate that the timeline has me paranoid, but if this had been scripted as a false flag operation in a Netflix series, we’d be calling it way too obvious.

What a privilege it was to host a Q&A with Iranian director Jafar Panahi (here with translator Sheida Dayani) after last night's screening of IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT at @thecoolidge.bsky.social. Wise and relevant words about freedom of expression and art under tyranny were spoken. Fantastic night.

Hoo boy. Agreed, #2 should be #1 and #1 should be #74. As for “Waiting for Guffman” in the top 10 instead of “Spinal Tap” (or even “Best in Show”!), Owen’s had a hard-on for that movie since 1996.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

The youngs cannot fathom how seismic it was seeing this man in “The Harder They Come” at a midnight show in 1973. Or how different the world would have sounded without him. (No Cliff, no Marley, for one thing.)

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

One of the very best movies of the year lands on Netflix this week – and it’s possible that that may be the worst place to watch it. New in Ty Burr's Watch List:
What to Watch: "Train Dreams," "Listers" and more
One of the year's best comes to Netflix and a scrappy home-made documentary about birding takes YouTube by storm. Plus: Reviews of "Rental Family," "Wicked: For Good" and some bleak humor for a time o...
