Grateful to CBC Radio for their continued commitment to discussion on the appropriation of Abenaki identity by Vermont groups. I'm still equally committed to convincing my legislative colleagues to spend time understanding the mistakes our predecessors made in granting state recognition.

My full blog post that urges a more complete interpretation of the recent racist and antisemitic chat captures of the Vermont Republican State Senator. #vtpoli

Outstanding thread on the weaponization of collegiality that is being utilized within SCOTUS.
What's up with Justice Jackson? She started making her mark and speaking out early, and some of her dissents are so pointed Kagan and Sotomayor don’t even join them. The far right is out for her, and even Republican justices are getting snarky.

So what's up? Here’s my take 🧵

My immediate thoughts on the most monstrous, immoral piece of legislation I’ve ever voted on in the Senate.

But I’m not done fighting. I know you aren’t either.

Rarely has MAGA policy been so clearly articulated.

Denying sick Americans healthcare doesn’t matter as long as their masked, racist security force gets funding - By Order of the Vice President.

The National Park Service is already underfunded and understaffed. To put its budget on the chopping block as we continue to see a rise in visitors at parks across the county is reckless and thoughtless.

It's the worst idea for "America's Best Idea."

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

H. 355 has not moved from the committee wall. The administration is currently waging an unconstitutional war without the approval of Congress. Trump has already shown his willingness to abuse the process fie federalizing the Guard. H. 355 provides a much needed check in that abuse. Vermont can lead.
The continued overuse and abuse of the National Guard, from unconstitutional deployments into war zones, extraneous deployments like DC following the January 6th riot & recently to CA, and all-around poor treatment in housing and care, is becoming commonplace.

Early in the session, I introduced H. 355, an act relating to review of orders placing the Vermont National Guard in federal active duty status. This is in partnership with Defend the Guard and Bring Our Troops Home. 1/

Can’t make this shit up.
All this means is that these kids will remain in makeshift FEMA trailers that are already beyond their use ability or on an air mattress in hastily put together spaces in various law enforcement facilities. NIMBYism will prevent care of our youth. #vtpoli
There will be some that applaud the failure to comply with the extensive list of requirements Vergennes gave to approve some minor zoning changes that would have allowed the state to build a new facility for justice involved youth on land already owned by the state. This is a hortsighted. 🧵 1/2

And Rep. Cordes wasn’t in a position to keep the seat. Sounds like you two might have some common ground. We’re part time legislators with full time responsibilities outside the state house. Living circumstances change regularly, especially in the current environment.
You may want to check your assumptions on whether or not the legislature is exclusively filled by people of privilege. I assume you’re referring to class privilege. We need more working class legislators and this is a significant loss.
The vote on Vermont’s biggest education bill was called before anyone could speak. The speed by which a voice vote was called caught many legislators off guard. No debate. No roll call. Here is my open letter to leadership explaining why that moment demands accountability.
