Contract signed! I am so happy my pirate story, “The Way to Treasure,” will appear in @trollbreathmag.bsky.social’s 8th issue, out June 2026!

(The illustration below was done by my talented little sister last year, after she read the very first draft of this story. 🏴‍☠️✨)

December 13th's story was Have I Ever Told You about When We Were Eaten? by Bernie Jean Schiebeling, published in @trollbreathmag.bsky.social.

"Being eaten does strange things to one’s memory. So does telling and retelling the story of it."

Grim, hopeful, gripping, and beautifully written!

Very pleased to say I’m back in @trollbreathmag.bsky.social next June with ‘Or Forever Hold Your Peace’, a love story about tall buildings.
It’s a weird story but Trollbreath are so supportive of slipstream and stories that fall between cracks. I’m really thrilled to be back with them for this one.

There are so many reasons to say no to generative-AI that have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of its output, even you’ve somehow convinced yourself that its quality isn’t unacceptably low.

In light of the astronomical increases for my health insurance next year, I thought it would be a good time to encourage people to subscribe. (A few hundred should cover it. Sigh.)

Contract signed!! Beyond excited to have my story "Istanai" coming out in March 26 in Trollbreath.
@trollbreathmag.bsky.social

A dark fantasy love story about mountain lions, static on old TVs, the jealousies that underpin friendship, and keeping revolutionary desire alive beyond death.

Can't fit it all in, but:

"...and a few million years later the universe arranged itself according to trillions-to-one odds so that you can exist and, somehow, instead of living in a perpetual state of wonder and gratitude, you get annoyed that we ran out of toilet paper."

Lovely. Give it a read.

Indeed, it's a really, really great story. I encourage everyone to read it, along with all the other fiction we've published this year. We've got a lot of authors deserving of award's consideration, and Bernie Jean's work should be included in those conversations.
