super struggling with the ending of my book. I really don't want mc1 to kill mc2 at the end given how much pacifism and love is a central theme of the book but I've borderline written myself into a corner about it.

I’d go as far as to say that racism is a completely acceptable, even integral, facet of the mainstream American ideology regardless of race. There is no taboo. They have aversions to specific words used by specific outgroups. But racism as a structural/ideological framework is a-ok.
