Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Summer after 7th grade. I went with a group of 5-6 other 13 year old boys. More laughter has never occurred in one place than that night. No movie has ever been more geared at 13 year old boys.

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I don't have much sympathy for complaints about the ridiculously high cost of concert tickets. Nobody's making anyone pay AND there are thousands of brilliant musicians working out there. Last night I saw a terrific band.

I spent years saying I really need to see the Mavericks. Finally saw them for the first time a few years back. Saw them a total of three times, most recently in Cedar Rapids last spring. What a band. Raul Malo was a singular voice and talent. Never thought last time would be the last time. 😔
